Willie, it would seem that you got very cozy with the Ren one afternoon. :P I'd suggest that you don't really know the bottle until you've gone through it with some time as some bottles need weeks/months to open up.

A tie between Talisker and HP and all others far behind.
This result represents my opinion perfectly.

I voted for Glenfiddich in my first reply.
I change my mind:
Highland Park in first
Talisker in second

Well, I'd go for the Talisker 18, for its greater complexity (for me anyway). And it was voted World's Best Single Malt Whisky by the WhiskyMag judging panel in 2007, wasn't it?

Hey, i never realised how much i love 18 YOs! Used to be 16 year olds, and I'll never forsake my darling Lagavulin.

But I'm a bit af a tart when it comes to 18 year olds...

Glenlivet OK - I'd never throw her out of bed, but I have very fond memoirs of every Macallan i tasted at that age, esp. 84-86...

Talisker and HP both very refined and splendidly mature for their age.

But the Yamazaki 18? Totally outrageous!

Yes well that's a special case. I do seem to have a problem keeping bottles of Ren open for more than a few hours.

But, in general I would drink a bottle over a few sessions which might take place over months or years so they usually do have time to open up. Your point is well made though. Whiskies do change significantly as they oxidise and it's not always for the worse.

Had a fling with a 29 YO last week(a TWE Bunny - very sexy!)

Me too. but passing up a sexy 18YO Oriental is unconscionable, believe me.

One of the most striking noses on the planet.
