Which is the better Laphroaig?

The OB 15yo Laphroaig is markedly different to the standard 10yo? Do you think it is better?

The 15yrs is much better, but the 10yrs is still one of the best i have tasted

It's amazing how the world turns. Fifteen years ago, I would have sworn that the 10yo was better than the 15. The 10 was iodine-medicinal and the 15 was mellow. Haven't had the 15 for a while, but I know that the 10 now tastes like I remember the 15 all those years ago. The 30yo knocks spots off them all.

Hello all,
I am going to have to open the 15 that I bought months ago and see. I also need to buy another 10 year old. Oh, and I need to try the CS. I don't have to worry about the quarter cask as I have not seen it.

I'd go with the 15yo but not by much. I have met several people who have trouble with the 10yo. In one friend's words, "I love the 15 but the 10 kicks my ass." Maybe it takes a little getting used to for those who haven't had much of the peated whiskies. Or maye it's the iodine that gets them. Anyway, they're both great drams.

The Aussie branch of the Islay Whisky Club is having its first meeting next week. A bottle of Quartercask is on the menu, together with the 10 and 15, so I will make a deliberate effort to A-B-C the three of them.

I must say, your assertion that the Quartercask beats the other two has me salivating! I'll report back to you after the event and let you know my thoughts.

I find the quartercask to be remarkable. I've never been a huge fan of the 10 and find the 15 to be aok (sacrilege for some but to each his/her own). But the quarter is simply marvelously yummy, also hard to put down and easily drinkable by veterans and neophytes. IMHO, it is extraordinary for a whisky that is only aged 5-6 years (this according to the RMW shop near Brit Museum in London). I would drink it over the Ardbeg 10 or Uigedail anyday for a bit of head-to-head distillery comparison. Have not tried the red stripe cask strength though.
