Glengoyne 17

I tried this the other day, after an absence of a few years.

What a dram!!! Beautifully layered, dollops of malt, superbly smooth and integrated, and just a great tasting whisky.

I was all the more impressed because I don't think the Glengoyne 10yo is anything special, and I tried the 21yo recently and thought it was horribly tired, flat, and woody.

It seems 17 years is the real peak for this one.

Anyone else tasted it recently?

Yes, I have an old bottle that I just revisited recently.
An excellent, soft beautifull malt. Love it. I find it way better than any of the "subbtle malts" from the lowlands, or the less sherryed speysiders like the Glenlivet....

I would like to try the cask strength, but I wonder if it will ever be available in our sweaty outpost of mud over sea...

All the new OB bottlings are terrific - the 17 is good, the 10 CS is very good, and the 19yr CS is gorgeous. The older ones don't seem to be very impressive: I've tried and was unimpressed with the 21, and the 10yr OB gets poor reviews.

The 10yo OB is the only one I've tried and I liked it. I stupidly waited to try the 17yo and it has been gone from the shelves of the LCBO for months (years?) now. I've bothered their agent about getting more in but no luck.

Since I've only tried one I didn't vote.

Can I add a 28yr and 29 yr to that list. I like the 17 yr, but the 29 yr old is far superior.

Somewhere else on this forum, I went on record to describe Glengoyne 17 as being 'as smooth as a smoothfish's smooth bits, after it's been put through a smoothing machine, ironed till it's nice and smooth and then fed to the man who taught Roger Moore how to be smooth and that's dead smooth'.

glengoyne is a good malt but it seems to me to so smooth as to be laid back doesnt really peak my tastebuds but easily drinkable
an above average malt
