Despite not being whiskEy-biased, I strongly vote for Redbreast 12. Just impeccable. I would have voted for Cragga if not its recent degraded version which, IMO, hardly resembles the marvellous Cragganmore 12, say, 10 years ago. With that said, I would rank Glenfarclas 12, Auchroisk 12 (Singleton), and Springbank 12 higher than any of those guys in the list.
I am a particular fan of Caol Ila. The taster offered by Hart Brothers on their stand at this years Munich Festival was superb.
I seem to recall it was a 9 year old.
My favorite 12yo is the Glenfarclas. It's my #1 everyday drinker, having the right balance of sweetness, malt, and overall punch to always be interesting & enjoyable.
Runner-up's in the poll are the Caol Ila 12 and Redbreast 12.
Yikes!!! I totally forgot about Bunnahabhain 12, which I like just as much as the Glenfarclas 12. How could I have forgotten about the Bunny - shame on me!!??
Of the few choices in the list I would go for Cragganmore 12. It's a complex malt with lots of flavours which gets better for everytime you drink it.
What I miss on the list are (among others):
Strathisla 12 - a great, fruity sherry influenced Speysider with a lot of character.
Lagavulin 12 - In my opinion one of the best Islays.
Rosebank 12 - No words needed... Bowmore 12 - A classic Islay.
