your favourite Islay 10-12yo?

Ardbeg do make good whisky and it will be the eventual winner of the overall poll.The other peated south islanders would have come 2nd and 3rd,or at worst top 5 if the poll set had allowed them to reach the final stage. There is nothing wrong with good peated whisky but the focus can become tiresome. There are about a 100 plus other potentially great less peated whiskies to explore, their flavours may be different or less powerful but to my mind they are invariably more balanced and interesting for the subtlety and complexity that many of them offer. Every malt whisky can have it's day,it's all about choosing the right time and place.

Yes, I was dissing Ardbeg. I like it, I just feel it's one-dimensional with a base malt that is the "weakest" (maybe that should be "least interesting") of the seven. I know others feel differently, and more power to them.

I agree about the Bowmore 17 - I really must get a bottle.

Jut saw this. Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't see what all the fuss is about Ardbeg. If you ask me purifiers are the work of the anti-Christ. :mrgreen:

I voted Laphroaig 10, just ahead of Bunny 12 and Bowmore 12.

I just had to vote for the Lagavulin 12. It knocks my socks off. After that and in no particular order: Ardbeg 10, Caol Ila 12 and Laphroaig 10.

I like all the Islays for a variety of reasons but Laphroaig is ususally my first choice.

I must vote Ardbeg Ten too! My first whisky love, and introduction to the wonderful world of whisky! Bruichladdich 10 is/was also very good!

Just reviewed my first post and I said Laphroaig 10 ... it's funny how fashions change :roll:

As of now I prefer the Lap QC just marginally over the 10 but I would have to say that Lagavulin 16 is my favourite Islay ....

I voted for Bruichladdich. I'm not always looking for heavy peat and the 'Laddie is always good. Of course I've yet to try Bunnahabhain or Caol Ila and as for Bowmore I've only had Dawn and Dusk.

Pity the Lag 16 is ommited as it would have to be it. Would'nt vote for the Bowmore as I only really love the 18 and the Port 16 soooooo it has to be 'The Laddie'

Tough call but has to be the Ardbeg 10... came back to it recently after a long separation and it blew me away... so good that it makes you wonder why you buy the more expensive expressions!
