7 right now - which is just about the number I should strive towards in order to ensure they don't go off on me.

But actually I mostly have more open, sometimes up to 15.

I have been a good boy lately and very soon I will go out and purchase a few rewards :lol:

11 right now - I discovered one today which was in hiding! Probably be 12 by tomorrow night. Several of these have only had a dram take off the top just for testing

26 but I'm gonna try and narrow it down a bit having read Mr T's enlightening posts on how whisky can deteriorate once opened. I think I have too many open and don't drink it very fast so I'm risking them going off a bit through neglect and that would be shameful. :oops:

The sneaky one is a litre of Glen Moray Chardonnay so nothing amazing but even so, nice to find, and about 3/4 full too

I'm hardly the expert, TL, but I read what other people say here and try to take a variety of opinions and experiences into account when I shoot my mouth off. Even so, sometimes I'm just plain wrong! It's true! As far as bottles deteriorating, I would say that having a bottle open a long time increases the chance that it will go off, and more so as the level gets lower. Some here have reported bottles open for two or three years without harm. I say why take the chance? More than once I've been offered a dram from someone's prized bottle of Snackitty Bockitty, only to taste a whisky that has long gone by. And of course, the special ones are exactly what we try to save for the longest time.

I have over 60 open bottles. I would keep it down, but limiting myself to a dozen whiskies doesn't seem right. Then again, most of my whiskies aren't really close to being empty. My Lagavulin is getting to the point where I should just finish it off (it has been open for over a year); maybe I should buy a new bottle and do a blind tasting to see how much of a difference there is.

About 20, although I aim to keep it down to 14,there's an overlap as some get to dregs and new bottles open.Also a silly number of minis at present many of which have already been opened and sniffed,in the case of the Ledaig 73 and 18, repeatedly. infact they smell so good I'm afraid to drink them.

I have 12 open. Of course I only have 12 different SM's in the cabinet. Can't seem to bring home anything new without giving it a try right away.

At the moment I'm snowed in by 2 1/2 feet of snow. Good time to sit back with a dram or three. Too much snow for me to shovel.

i actually have 0 right now. i'm still new to this (and not blessed with a large wallet), so i usually buy one at a time. in the last few months, i've worked through several bottles of auchentoshan select & just finished a bottle of glenmorangie 10-year. when i voted yesterday, i still had a little wild turkey 101 that i finished last night. for the near future, i'll only be drinking single malts, anyway.

I have 3 open just now. I very rarely have more than 3 bottles open at any one time, it only happens if i am close to polishing one of the open bottles off and i get impatient if i have a bottle waiting to be tasted i havent had before.

I must say i find it a little surprising the amount of bottles some of you in this poll have open.

6 bottles, but the Tomintoul 16 is getting to that lonely low level. I rarely let a bottle last more than 2 months, and I always finish the last 2 drams quickly to prevent it from "going off" (sounds like a viagara dosage problem). All that leaves me is the Johnnie Walker sample pack and a fresh bottle of the Peat Monster :twisted:
