I've never spent that kind of money on a blend. Red, Black and Green are the only Johnny Walkers I've bought. JW Black and Chivas Regal are expensive as I've gone with the blended stuff. I suspect that's going to be the case with a lot of people here, but you might find a few more takers.

Hard to compare but I do like the more Islay influence of the JW black. The gold is good but it is a sweeter maltier blend IMHO.

not that im one of those whisky snobs or that, just so you dont get the wrong idea. i just dront drink blends as they leave me with a sore head next day :oops:

I voted for the Black. It has been some time since I tasted the Gold but I remember thinking it was a bit too sweet for my tastes.

This bar I was in had no malts. in the shadows i noticed a JW bottle. I asked for a Black. They only had Gold. Quick haggle. They had to give me the 'Gold' and charge me for 'Black'!!

Of COURSE I enjoyed it!

So. Small dram tho' it was, I remember it as exceptionally smooth...and sweet. Loved it, as a totally seductive and non-challenging dram. Yes, the Black has more island bite to it, but i've spent far too little time with the Gold to pass judgment...

I'm a malt man, but as blends go, on my rounds of gigging in bars/clubs/pubs, if no malts are on offer I'm happy with a JW Black, A Blackbush, a Black Bottle...these seem to be the best i've tasted. BNJ not bad. Oh, and Jameson's occasionally. And any of the above even if Glenfiddich 12 is on offer!

If someone offered me a bottle of either of these (my choice), I'd take the gold. There's nothing quite like it out there. It's not better than others, it's just different...
