Lagavulin slightly edges Laphroaig 15 and Ardbeg ANB. Never had the 17yo. I think for me that wave of fresh peat at the finish is what does it. It's rather exciting.

Just at the moment and I do think our tastes and opinions change and change back again. I voted for the Ardbeg Beastie. This for me at the moment is a sublime whisky with so much going for it.

My vote goes to Lagavulin 16 as it's been one of my favorites for at least the last decade. The only one of the list I haven't tried is the Beist and that's only because I haven't opened my bottle of it yet.

Cheers!

If I had loads of money then the Ardbeg 17 would be my choice.

But if you want something that is proper affordable, the Laga 16 is hard to beat.

I voted Ardbeg 17. This has been a favourite of mine for years - to the extent that I have paid £65 & £95 for the two bottles that I have stashed away in a dark corner of my cupboard.

I haven't tried a bottle of the Ardbeg 'Airigh Nam Beist'
but they were selling here in Seattle
(if you were lucky enough to buy one before it sold out)
for about $110 a bottle

Don't really consider that affordable
considering I just picked up a bottle of Brora OMC for $115
and I don't believe that Brora and affordable really belong in the same sentence.

BUT
all that aside I did pick up some of the Ardbeg 17yo at a very reasonable price last year ($60 a bottle)

But my vote will still go with Lagavulin 16yo
which is a great buy at $62 a bottle here in Seattle

The problem with polls is you can only pick one and in all fairness most of the above drams are crackers but abviously people have a major affinity with the Laga 16. It really is nothing against the rest though.

Lagavulin 16 - my first ever Islay malt :P

And also the most affordable of the lot

(Bowmore 17 and Caol Ila 18 are missing)

Not sure i agree with the mature bit of the title but that's just me but once again the Ardie takes the vote .
Where have all the Bowmores , Caol Ilas , Bruichladdichs and Bunnahabhains gone anyway ?
