How do you Display your collection?

Having moved into new digs, I've acquired some "cast-off" display shelves that used to sit in our family room. Once I've finished installing the kitchen counters and sink, I'll be allowed to start working on my whisky lair again.

The cabinets are great as they have glass doors on three shelves, for display and a lower solid door for the more valuable items.

Nice to be almost back to the forums and to enjoying whisky again. Both will hopefully be on a regular basis. By the by, the renovated house looks great. well worth all the effort to upgrade it.

I ache, though, all over.

We are also in the process of moving- the moving come Thursday. Our new house is in great shape. Not only does it have some nice decks for whisky drinking (fall and winter only in hot NC), but I have a great new place for the scotch.

Hi to all, first time to post here....
I have a collection of about 25 bottles which I put on top of my little bar. I need to get a picture.

We are now in the process of doing a remodelling of the kitchen and one of the areas to be done is me bar. So, the contractor promised to make me a nice shelving to put my growing collection. When done, I will post a picture in here.

I'm slowly closing in on 200 bottles, far more then I ever thought to have. The first 150 or so are nicely arranged in order in bookcases but the rest are finding homes wherever I can fit them. I'll have to do something soon though because the evil eye from the better half is getting pretty intense.

as soon as you find room for the rest of the bottles, graduly youll build up more bottles and have to find room for them too.

ive converted two walk in closets floor to celing shelfs all the way round for my lot, and ive still got about 150 bottles up the loft...

On a big 'ol bookshelf that used to be in the living room. Got rid of the books down to a bedroom, moved the shelf into my "bar" and loaded it up. It's not perfect, as the whiskies are now 3 deep on some shelves.

Then I've a few other smaller shelves with a couple of bottles on them, and finally the "special" bottles are safely hidden away.

I have a nice cool cupboard in the corner of the kitchen for the bottles, plus there are usually one or two around in the living room. I don't order them or anything, it's more a case that the ones I have recently had are at the front. As I usually only have around a dozen open and I am not a collector, this works out fine. I don't really feel the need to display them, particularly as certain friends and family members would assume that I have a drink problem!

I split them up like football divisions.
Premier league whisky = Cask strength, collectables and favourites.
1st division = Whisky that i dram on a regular basis.
2nd division = The ones that i have tried but do not really like but am willing to try again.
And finally
Blue Square Conference whisky. The ones that are just plain bad, cheap or nasty.Mind my brother always appreciates these when he gets them for nowt.

Matt somewhere dry, cool and not in direct sunlight. My collection is in my office in the north facing part of the house.

I used to have ideas for displaying them:

A flight of Flora and Faunas over here;
an arc of Ardbegs over there;

a shelf full of Springbanks;
a stack of Signatorys;

a gaggle of Glenfarclas;
a gang of Glenmorangies

a brood of Bruichladdich;
a bunch of Bowmore;

here by the walls and there by the door;
nothing but the Whisky Galore;

an ever-present danger of, (by my wife), me being throttled;
and now I can't see the whisky for the bottles;

so now I don't care that much for display;
I just spend my time trying to drink it away.

not sure its a good thing for the space problem though. After reading the forums for a while yesterday, I got a bit excited and bought 7 bottles of malt. I really have to learn to control myself .

Looking at this discussion witha different hat on, one of bar owner as opposed to collector, I have realised that the bottles in The Arc are displayed by region / style.

On the right of the shelf are Irish whiskies, then come the internationals to their left, then the Scotish ones - working from right to left with Lowlanders and the more gentle / flowery drams, giving way to Speyside and The Highlands, then Islay and the maritime ones (like Old Pulteney) over to the right.

Maybe this calls for a picture?
I'll see what I can do next week.

So....

I made myself a beverage caddy... I had a hanging file holder that I don't use anymore (I have my desk now)...

So I had a thought (a beverage thought (shocked I know))... So with a little work, I was able to have a roll around beverage cart...

Right now it is filled with the 'drinking stock'. (fits about 32-35 bottles) The more precious (long term) open stock are still put away...

There is room for a set of glasses and a water....

Thoughts?

It is right at elbow level when sitting down.. So I can just reach over grab a post and swing it over to me... give it a spin to check the selection and pour away...

It should really help out with my bottle killing ratio...

All you need to do now is make it remote controlled and a video link so you'll never have to move from your seat and the video so you can navigate it from room to room.

Thank you gent's! I got another couple of bottles last week so now it's looks a bit crowded. No problem though, I just brought a few bottles up stairs witin easy reach of the computer.
