Balvenie 12 VS Highland Park 12

Hmmmm hard choice for me, as they are two of my very favourites. The Balvenie has a better nose to me, and a beautiful honeyish flavour. But the Highland Park is really complex and rounded too, though in a smokier vein.

I guess given that in general I prize honey and sherry flavours over peaty ones, in theory I should say the DW. But it would be close.

Never had the DW, but love the Founder's Reserve. From what I have read, the DW is close, maybe not quite as good as the FR. Either way, I can't imagine it winning out over HP12 for me, especially for a price of $37. I love the HP12

Now, were one to ask me to compare Highland Park 12 Year Old with the original issue of Balvenie Founders Reserve (that came in the sloping bottle and that predated the distillery's decision to market the DW and FR whilst simultaneously scaling back the Sherry cask influence of the latter), my choice would be an extremely difficult one.

DW, by a hair, for me. Nothing against the HP it's great whisky, 'specially for the price.

Although I enjoy the HP 12, I am enamoured with the Balvenie DW. So much flavour for a 12 yr.
