What do you do with the empties?

i usually throw away the bottles but sometimes keep the tubes, especially if it a rare one.

Gee! after reading all your posts, I'm not sure if I should tell what I do with my Empties?

Oh well, I will... I leave the bottles in the tubes and put them on display.. don't have much space for them tho? most are on a shelf but my wifes keeps threatening to throw them out if they sit there for a long time!

In my last house I had a ledge running around the walls about 1.5ft from the ceiling and just wide enough for a whisky tube. They were running all around my lounge nrly 100 of them.

Then when I moved I was not allowed to bring them with

I tried them on eBay, no one was interested so I binned them.

Now on my cheaper range the tube goes straight in the bin when I open the bottle and the better stock stays in the tube/box until it's empty then all bottles go in the recycling thingy.

the only time I may keep a bottle is when I want to replace it and want to make sure I get the right one.

I like to keep the boxes or tins with the bottles, and I've only emptied out a couple of standard issues. I'm sure that I will keep them until I have too many to justify holding on to them.

The Lagavulin 16, Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10 all went in the bin. I still have the tin from the Bruichladdich 3D2 Moine Mhor I emptied a few weeks ago.

For all you artists out there, cut out a piece from each box you empty, and after about 20-30, you put together a bunch and glue em to some sort of backing and frame it. Might be a nice framed pic for your bar.

Seriously I can't really see the point of collecting empty bottles or labels. The stuff is there to be drunk! Collecting empty bottles may be a symptom of incipient OCD

To each their own. I just know Mrs Musky would probably severly hurt me if I started to collect something else. My basement is already full of trains, books and whisky. With a set of railway magazines going back to the 1940's I shouldn't toss stones either.

I was interested in them at one point, but they were a little pricy, and I would hate to screw it up. I would still maybe like it for my wines.

I have pretty much come down to taking a good digital picture of the bottle when I get it. Then another when I empty it (just to make sure). Then it goes bye-bye.

Not too much room in the townhouse for bottles to be kept. I have too many sealed and opened to worry about the dead ones....

Guys there is a product out there that removes labels, itc a clear sticky sheet you put over the label then it peels off in one. My father uses it for his wines and always works, touch wood!

These sheets on the reverse have space for tasting notes, vintage and is pucnhed to put into a file.

I recyle all mine the only thing i recycle, to do paper etc its a hlf hour drive.

Hey J thats one way to use up all your empties. I notice its only a single story dwelling. Can you imagine a 2 story house being built like that. One bottle cracks and they all go. It'd be like the story of the 3 little piggies.

Trust me, unless your girlfriend has a collection of Mateus bottle candle-holders from the 80s, she is not going to think this is romantic. It's just one step deeper into your OCD.

I recycle my bottles. Here in Maine they give you $0.15 for each liquor bottle returned and $0.05 for beer cans etc. So when I get around $20 worth, I return them and put the money towards my next purchase.

well, I had to clean up the house, the wife was getting mad about all the empty bottles! they is no recycling here that I know of? So i left the bottles next to the garbage bin in the street, after one day they were all gone? the local kids come round and pick up anything they can see and sell it. guess thats the recycling system here?
Now I have more room to put the full bottles? (when I get some more)

I normally clean the bottle thoroughly and then do some glass painting on it and use it as a vase for keeping dry flowers or i sometimes put porpourri on the nice looking empty bottles and keep them as decorative items.

Normal bottles go straight into the recycling bin, but I keep the corks for use if a cork breaks on another bottle.

Smaller bottles (35cl, 20cl and such) are kept for pouring samples into. Also used when the level in the normal bottles get low (pour the whisky into the smaller bottles to hinder too much oxidation).

I take full-size bottles to the recycling bank. I used to do the same with all bottles, but I now keep miniatures for sample swaps.

I recycle mine. When I did finish my first ever bottle I remember considering keeping it for posterity but decided against it because I didn't want to become that kind of person (no offense to that kind of person, of course, I'm sure collecting empty bottles is a fascinating and noble hobby )
