Man, like everyone else here has said, that is an amazing collection! And, hands down, a true whisky lover's collection - a huge number of bottles open! I have a few friends with massive collections in the several hundred bottles and up range, but I don't think I know anyone with that many open bottles, all available and all on display. One or two might be around 100 or 150 open bottles, but 300+??? - awesome!

In addition, you have a great collection as well - some fantastic bottles there! You make me want to open some more of my bottles, but at over 50 open bottles right now, I'm still a little shy! Plus, I actually don't drink that much whisky - getting through 50 bottles would take me a easily several years. 300+ open bottles would be a lifetime of drinking. Just a second, I totally understand what you're doing now :). Brilliant (live life to the fullest) and congratulations on the courage to do that! I think I'm going to go open a Brora 30 now just to celebrate your ideology!

Cheers (and thanks)!

That's a pretty nice collection of tequilas as well. What are your thoughts on the various expressions aside from the Anejos(i.e. the Casa Noble and El Tesoro)? I've found that there haven't been too many Anejos that haven't been good to excellent, but the Cuervo Platino, Don Julio Blanco, and Cabo Wabo Repasado have all been very tasty too.

So 23 for me... from Redbreast 12 and 15 up to Brora/HP 30 via lagavullin, Laphroaig QC, various Ardbeg, multi various HP and quite a hord of Glenfarclas.

Drat, we gotta stop opening and start drinking.

Nice to find a fellow Redbreast 15 fan!

Currently "just" Penderyn, Locke's 8yo Single Malt, Redbreast 15yo, Black Bush, Tyrconnell 15yo Single Cask.

Unfortunately it looks like I'll never be able to get one now as I don't speck Ducth or German and the only suppliers I can find are in those languages.

A lovely drink Cathach

Most are sold out  but still have it listed for some reason.
Fewer and fewer German shops will ship abroad these days too. I'm going to finish my bottle of Redbreast 15 tomorrow and then I'll have to work up the courage to open another one, it'll have to be a while though; they ain't makin any more of it

Thanks! It's definitely not a huge collection, but considering that I live in BC (i.e. liquor wasteland, especially concerning tequila), I've managed to truck back some mighty tasty bottles (and one or two duds :p).

My tequila preferences are definitely for Anejos (as you can obviously see!) and some blancos, though I'm pretty particular with which blancos I like and don't like. I'm generally not really into Reposados much at all, though the Casa Noble repo is an exception, probably because it's fairly "woody" for a reposado (I'd say it's similar to a lot of the younger anejos on the market).

My favourite bottles are:

San Matias Gran Reserva for day to day anejo drinking. It's a bit hard to find, but it's a phenomenal anejo and very reasonably priced considering how good it is.

For premium anejos, the 1942 is a staple for sure, but the Rey Sol is a nice treat once in a while! The Casta Weber Azul is the prize in my tiny tequila collection: it's my only unopened bottle and one that will stay that way for quite a while I suspect (until the right group of people come together :)

For reposados, the Casa Noble is my current favourite and the only reposado that I would routinely buy. I LOVE El Tesoro tequila (the blanco is one of my favourites, and my definite favourite for mixed drinks and both the anejo and the Paradiso are awesome), but the reposado is the one of their four standard bottles that i don't absolutely love, hence why I don't own it any more.

For Blancos, like I said, I really like the El Tesoro. The Casa Noble Blanco is quite nice, but I think that the El Tesoro is better. Also Asombroso blanco is really, really good, but not particularly cheap.

Not sure if that helps, but hopefully!

Cheers!

I will have to keep an eye out for some of those tequilas. There are a few more tequilas I've seen around locally that I still want to pick up as well-

Buen Amigo Reposado
Casa Noble Anejo and Blanco
La Certeza Anejo
Semental Anejo
Don Fulano Anejo
Herencia Mexicana Anejo
Patron Platinum
and yes even the 1800 Anejo

Hey RogerB:

Of those, I personally would consider the following:

Casa Noble both crystal and Anejo (the anejo is quite woody, but I love it!)
Don Fulano Anejo
Herencia Mexicana Anejo

I don't know the Certeze, nor the semental or Buen Amigo, so I can't say anything about them. however, the Patron is ridiculously expensive for what most tequila people would say is a very average anejo. it's kind of the JW Blue of the Tequila world :)

Cheers!

I thought the Gran Patron was the one you're referring to. The Platinum is about $50 or so. Thanks for the heads up on the others though.

Bourbon takes time IMHO. I am digging the rye heavy stuff at the moment. I started with Makers Mark and was replused! It took me awhile, but then I discovered Wild Turkey :D

I've been averaging about 34 open bottles lately, it seems to be a comfortable number for me, mostly due to space in the cabinet. Currently I'm at 35, counting single malts only.

Honnestly, that's why the " " was here for.. I hope good bourbon will be available everywhere and easily. I have a rather soft spot for Evan William, Woodford or the very elusive George Stagg but the chase sometimes is tiresome.. Give us some good stuff !!

Er, lemme go look.
Okay, Redbreast 15 yo, Jim Beam Rye, Mellow Corn, Podhreen Mare, Edradour Tokaji finish, and Marks and Spencer Islay 10 yo all open currently.
(Though in my defence, the M+S belongs to the other half really, and the Rye and Corn whiskies were bought out of curiosity and to further my palate training rather than from pure lusting desire.)

no defense needed, mon frere

I think we all have bottles that don't match our collection/aren't to our tastes/we later regret/the spouse picked up/received as a gift/etc.

I used to have at least 20-30 open bottles of malts at any time but for political reason´s I have had to bring that down to 5-10
If it is not only whisky that counts there is still 20-30 open but the others have been unused (by me) for years (apart for some rhums)
