How many open bottles do you normally have?

I agree TreacleSponge! Bourbon is fantastic, to be discovered if it hasn't already been by the individual.

Bourbon takes time IMHO. I am digging the rye heavy stuff at the moment. I started with Makers Mark and was replused! It took me awhile, but then I discovered Wild Turkey

I've been averaging about 34 open bottles lately, it seems to be a comfortable number for me, mostly due to space in the cabinet. Currently I'm at 35, counting single malts only.

Er, lemme go look.
Okay, Redbreast 15 yo, Jim Beam Rye, Mellow Corn, Podhreen Mare, Edradour Tokaji finish, and Marks and Spencer Islay 10 yo all open currently.
(Though in my defence, the M+S belongs to the other half really, and the Rye and Corn whiskies were bought out of curiosity and to further my palate training rather than from pure lusting desire.)

I think we all have bottles that don't match our collection/aren't to our tastes/we later regret/the spouse picked up/received as a gift/etc.

I used to have at least 20-30 open bottles of malts at any time but for political reasonÂ´s I have had to bring that down to 5-10
If it is not only whisky that counts there is still 20-30 open but the others have been unused (by me) for years (apart for some rhums)

Definite twinge of guilt from this family man over here. I must say i have about 5 less than an eighth full...and one unopened - Talisker 18! two others open anyway - the Ten and 57 degrees...

It's working a treat to be honest. I managed to open up a Green Spot tonight and she was easily distracted by the M+S Islay so that my lovely pot-still went unravaged!
It really isn't great though. I'm no Islay nut, but I've enjoyed Laphraoigs, Bunnahabhains and Bowmores in the past. This tasted like some sort of smoke-damaged lemonade to me. :yuk:

I am down to a all-time (well...at least a very long-time) low of 3 open bottles. Reason for that is that I will go on a 6 months round-the-world trip soon. :thumbsup:

It ranges for me, up to as many as 38, and sometimes as low as 32. It's always up and down, there is no rhyme or reason really. I just open them when I feel like it.
