I've had my share, your share and about 3 moe people share of Canadian whisky as I was growing up, so I really can't stand it these days. way to sweet.

I only buy whiskeys that I'll drink (unless it's a really really special offer or I'm buying in Nothern Ireland and buying in bulk to stock up. As you can see, lots of Irish. No Cooley unfortunately as the Middleton/IDL lot dominated my last visit to Newry. I only got a small (350ml) Black Bush and I'm desperately trying to save it. Such a damn good whiskey...

From my standpoint, the Countdown is a little less depressing now that you have some work. Of course, this is always subject to change but I hope not.

In thinking about it, we may be about the same point in number of bottles open.

Willie, I am now firmly in a "drink these open bottles" mindset. I'm also in an "I have enough whiskies and I shoudn't waste any more money on more I won't ever get the chance to drink" mindset (but I doubt that will last long ).

I hear you, but I think that for every bottle you choose not to buy the money should go into an emergency dramming account. Just in case you ever get to the last bottle. Then you can have tons of fun reloading the cabinets.

I'm down to 15 open bottles myself, some of which are close to being extinct. I do have ten closed bottles - most of which will stay closed for the foreseeable future though, with a few in it for the long haul - so my whisky stock's looking in a right sorry state.

It's all by design though and I may well get round to restocking at some point, but it won't be for a while.

It's been my experience that if you get your blood/alcohol level high enough the nasties don't like it and leave.

Of course there may be some other side effects, but we'll not go into that.

Nice Willie JJ, I like that. I'm starting to feel better now. I had a wee sip of Balvenie Double wood the other night and I couldn't taste anything except for the alcohol. I couldn't smell a thing from it either. Opened up my bottle of Laph 10 and could barely smell that.

I think I will be able to taste and smell again fully by the end of the week and I'm thinking I will have to treat myself to a new bottle of something... I have had my eye on the Balvenie 15 SB.

Damn my weak will power. My open bottle inventory keep growing. I'd rather keep it limited so I can enjoy what I am drinking instead of comparing it to other open bottles, but when I bring home a new bottle it just screams DRINK ME!!!

I've got 13 open bottles at the moment which is more than enough. In fact I plan only to open more 'daily' whiskies and buying them double so I can stock the more 'exclusive' ones.

I'm still at the high 50s mark but having sorted through the collection recently just realised only 1/3 is open. Here I figured I was at the halfway mark! Also discovered a spare Ledaig and a Scapa I didn't remember buying.

It's always good to reveiw the actual stock from time to time and update the list.

The whisky will wait for you to be healthy enough to get close and personal once more. I've put out the lowest levels of SMS to the front of my storage shelves so they are easily accesible now. I had them strewn all over the floor while I was renovating the Lair but have been able to return them to the storage unit.

Problem is that they are 5-6 deep on the shelf (deep shelves) so you have to dig through them to find a particular whisky. (sigh)
