As much as I like to buy from the local liquor store, I may have to start purchasing online as the selection is not too spectacular. Its working alright for now as I am just venturing into the Whisk(e)y World.

I live in Cumbernauld near Glasgow.

I can by a bottle of 10 from Auchentoshan distillery for about £30, or I can go to the super market round the corner and pay £20.

I think that for standard expressions supermarkets are great value for money. And a fantastic way to try different things.

I want to Islay and Visited ardbeg which I Belive is bottled and aged in Glasgow and payed £30 for a 10 I could have bought a less traveled bottle cheaper in Glasgow.

So the question i would ask is... is there to much snobery among whisky drinkers ?

I haven't come across any snobs yet, but I think you'll find less in whisky drinkers than in wine drinkers. At least I have so far...lol.

Cheers...and have fun running about in these forums.

Asshol - the one missing from your list for me is the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. You can buy whisky in their bars, over the phone or on line - but they are really a club rather than a trader.

Also, I voted for domestic oninternet sites rather than UK internet sites although in my case they are the same thing.

Haha...I took the "e" off because it seemed too obvious. I have subscribed to magazines under the name Lohss Anami.

You have to be a member of SMWS to order, correct? I will probably join after I have a little more experience.

You are correct. Membership is required. And it is a $199 entry fee. So you have to think a little bit before making the leap.

Since you are in the area, you could also look into the two D&M whisky clubs. There is no entry fee, but they would like for you to stay in for a while. They have two clubs that produce a bottle every other month. So if you are in both (like I was for a while) you get a bottle every month.

I found it a great way to explore other distilleries that you would not normaly try. And they have been pretty good at picking out great expressions of each.

Cheers,
