Would you pay ~£155 for a nip of Black Bowmore?

I tend to search your menu for the drams that are less than £5, so no I wouldn't be interested. There's plenty good stuff out there for reasonable money IMO.

Of course given your location its not impossible that some rich tourists might want to try it. That's where the market for the BB would be I think. Not from folks like us.

To dear for my wallet,wouldn't pay £155.00 for a bottle never mind a nip.
If i remember correctly they were selling nips from a black Bowmore at the Ballygrant Inn on Islay during one of the festivals a few years ago,can't remember the price though.

I'm normally not a moralist but I find it quite decadent to spent that much on a nip of malt and I beliefe there are quite a few things (not only malts) that I would rather buy for 155 Pounds.

Nope, sorry - too rich for my pocketbook. Most of my bottles cost less than that, and I enjoy them too much to drop that much for a dram. . .

Even if I could afford it I wouldn't think of it! There are many great bottles of malt I can think of for less than £155 let alone just a nip. Also for the fact that I'm not a Bowmore fan to begin with would be another reason to decline.

Yep, it's me the contrarian. Unlike everyone else, I would ask which BB? If the 42 yo, no doubt. The others mabe not. But hey, I love Bow.

Willie hits it on the head, I think. There are a lot of people who would splurge while on a big vacation. It is an experience like any other.

No. I couldn't justify that amount of money on a sip or two. Not with the price of diesel as it is.

I'm with the majority I'm afraid - there is just no way I could justify spending that amount on a dram. To be honest that is approaching my current upper limit for a bottle.

On the flip side however, during my honeymoon on Islay in the summer of 1995, my wife and I shared a dram of the Black Bowmore in the Lochside Hotel. It was a 35ml measure and after we plucked up the courage to buy it, we savoured it for the best part of an hour - it had one of the best finishes on a malt I think I've ever tasted.

As far as I can remember it cost £12, which was a pretty big to deal to us then and quite a large portion of our weekly disposable income (my wife was a poor teacher and I was finishing off my PhD). In fact, when I look at our joint incomes then, and our joint incomes now £12 equates pretty well to £155 (a bit more expensive, relatively, in 2008). I guess this backs up Willie's point - there is always someone (rich tourist, or someone celebrating) who'll pay for something memorable.

I guess I have other priorities for my money now, which is a bit of a shame....

I votoed no, becuase the price is a little too steep for me (for a dram anyway). I've had no problem spending that much on a bottle though. I had the chance to attend a dinner where the BB was being served, plus other Bowmore's as well, for about the same price, and I declined. However, If I could afford it, I'd do it in a second.

That's pretty pricey for a single dram! The only time I might spend that kind of money would be if I was there on vacation and threw caution to the winds. I'd still have to rationalize it by saying that it's part of the experience, splurging on vacation is ok, when will I have a chance to do it again, it'd be a nice "souvenir", etc.

On second thought, nah. I'd rather go to one of the fine shops in town and splurge there.

Failing that rather unlikely scenario though, I voted no, simply because I can't afford to spend that much on one dram. I'm pushing the boat out if I only end up with the one bottle with that amount. However, if I was rich enough I'd definitely go for it; you only live once, and it's not every day you have the chance to try something as special as BB.

*I would have said 'keep the lass as a souvenir', but I fear that might be pushing it slightly.

I would pay £40 tops to sample the dram of my dreams. I think that for any more money than that and especially £155 I could buy a lot of really good whisky!

I voted no because I wouldn't get £155-worth of enjoyment out of it so it's not worth that to me.

When I had a bar there was customer who'd have a few drinks then ask for "your most expensive whisky". He'd have no idea how much it would cost and no idea what he was drinking . You just need a few customers like him, Whiskibar

I have paid £10 per cl and that is about the maximum I would pay.
(OK, Black Bowmore seems very interesting, make it £15 .... )

Well I voted with "no", although I might be able to afford that, but I wouldn´t do it. Last year in april in Limburg I had the chance to get 2cl of the BB for 45 Euros and didn´t pay that too.
I´m not sure that I ever really want to try it, because it might mean loosing or demasking a legend ....

Black Bowmore 25ml costs the bar £75 & Sells for £155 (Gross Profit on 1 dram £80)
or more in the punters favour
Black Bowmore 35cl costs the bar £105 & sells for £155 (Gross Profit £50)

Even with the bigger glass I think to make a gross profit of 50quid on a single glass is taking the piss and yes I know it's a big out lay in the first place but still imo does not justify these prices.. And that is why I never pay more than £8 for a dram. The more expensive the whiskey the less value you get in a bar. But that's just me I'm tight

Like nearly everybody else, I do not have an open wallet for whisky.. With those £, I'd rather buy a great bottle and share drams around (and to be honnest, I'm not even quite sure my noob tastebuds would really appreciate.. I leave that to the very loaded and/or very experienced people )

Have to agree that London's probably the only place you could sell at that price and then again only if it's the most expensive whisky on offer so that the city boys can show off to their mates how much £££ they have - no point buying the second most expensive dram!
