December 2008 Live Tasting-Final Poll

Postby Ganga » Tue Nov 04, 2008 5:29 am

As discussed in the preliminary poll, Saturday December 13 is our date for the tasting. *

Also, it was decided that Brora will be done as part of the Other Live Tastings. We're looking at an April date. For those interested, please look for a new topic in Live Tastings. Discussion will likely get going in December, following the Irish Tasting and the Springbank Tasting.

Onto the December Final Poll. Please choose one distillery for the December Live Tasting. I know this one is early but the tasting is earlier in the month than what is usual.

*Edit: it seems this date will not work. Please see poll for date.

I had to vote for the Laga, because I only have like one 'Farclas and one or two Laddies.

Of course, I could stock up before then. :P

I voted for Lagavulin. I think that it is a great winter dram especially the 12yo.

What else but Lagavulin? About time this got its own tasting!

Besides, I have a few bottles of it lying (well, standing) around doing nothing much; I'm sure they'd be glad of a bit of attention.

I find it hard to believe that you couldn't simply have picked a different date so that MT could do his Christmas Drams tasting

A Glenfarclas win would kill two birds with one stone so to speak as 'farclas is part of my Christmas dramming repertoire.

Cheers!

I can't really lose with this selection but I've gone for Lagavulin because, well, it's Lagavulin! This even though I've only got one bottle in stock (DE)... I'd better get myself a 2008 12yo :iwbrnt:

No, it isn't MT's place to move. For some reason I had it in my head that he was scheduled for the 6 and not the 13th. I apologize for inadvertently posting the 13th. Ryan has posted a topic for selecting a date for the Forum's monthly live tasting.

As an aside, has anyone picked up the 2009 Whisky Calendar? If so, would you be so kind as to create a topic listing the month and the whisky as a new topic. If not, I'll take care of it in the future.

I didn't vote.

Looking at the other poll it seems that we will have plenty of available people for the weekend before Christmas.

With all the Laga votes, I just wonder what everyone has available. Are we going to get the 16, 12 and the current DE only? Ok, I'm sure someone can be "encouraged" to bring a 21 or 25 to the table. :) Subtle, aren't I? :P

Ganga, asuming Lagavulin wins, I've got the 16, a sample of the 12, and enough of the 21 that I stashed away for future tastings, flights etc, plus I think I have a sample of the DE, but I'm not sure about that one. But I really suspect any Lagavulin IB's will be very tough to come by, in fact I've never even seen one!

I'm proud to say I also have an IB Lagavulin - a 1984 from Murray McDavid. Can still get it at TWE (link), though unfortunately the price has shot up somewhat since I got hold of it.

Alongside that I could bring a 12 (2007), 12yo FotCM, 16WH miniature, 16PE (L6), 21 and 25. I'm also currently bidding on an old 12yo miniature, so will see how that goes. If I win that it'll also be on the table.

Back to the December tasting... I haven't taken part in a tasting yet but might manage the December one as I have a couple of Lagavulins staring at me (16, 1988 DE and 1990 DE). Can someone direct me to details on how these monthly tastings are run? Do I just log in, drink and post? Thanks.

If anyone wants a sample of the LEO 12yo, please pm me.

Yes that's it.
On the day there will be a special topic for the tasting and you just post your notes.
The topic also has a link to a page that will constantly refresh with the latest post at the top (reverse of a normal thread) so that you're always seeing the latest.

I look forward to seeing you at the Lagavulin Tasting mr_fox, the more people involved the merrier! As Collector57 has mentioned, it's as easy as logging in, dramming and posting your notes to the specific thread. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask! :D :D

Please add any other suggestions for January here. If you have any questions on what distilleries have been done recently, please see the Past Tastings thread.

So far suggestions are: Bowmore, Talisker, Glenrothes, and I'm going to add Bruichladdich.

Well it looks the 'other place' are also trying to organise a live tasting on Dec 13th. Well done (considering all the tears last time over dates)...

Anyway, just to confirm this will be running on the 13th as usual. Take your pick and have fun...

So no "either ... or" here - I would post notes on both (if I don't get railroaded into some other social function by Mrs C57  ). Twice as many drams! That can't be bad!

I agree, posting on both is perfectly ok. After all, double the pleasure, double the fun! I guess I'll have to force myself to drink twice as much that night. :P :P
