The Whiskies

Any rye whiskey you may have...

Date and Time

Friday 26th June 7:00pm GMT - Sunday 28th June

Start time - 7:00pm GMT

About...
For those of you who do not know what these are about, they run for generally 12+ hours and we all sit down (at various times) to taste a range of whiskies and share our notes and comments on the forum. Have a look in the Live Tasting forum for past events.

They are a great way to meet people on the forum, chat about your experiences and learn something new about the whiskies you have, and we all end up having a good time.

Please feel free to join in and post any comments or tasting notes you have. Tasting notes can be added using the Tasting Note tab on the postings page. (Note, the Age field on the tasting must be a number such as 7,9,10,18)

We look forward to seeing you beginning Friday evening...

I will try to be on Saturday sometime between 4-8pm Pacific Time. I have Old Potrero 100% rye and a Thomas H Handy Sazerac 2008 release to taste.

Old Potrero

Old Potrero
18th Century Style Whiskey 100% Rye
Gasoline, very spicy, alcohol, fresh bread, dough.
There is the gasoline again, lots of rye spiciness. Thyme, and paprika and some fresh bread again.
Long and strong. Very sharp spiciness that almost blunts out anything else.
A very interesting whisky but a little over the top.

Old Potrero

Old Potrero
18th Century Style Whiskey
Alcohol, vanilla, oak and fresh plastic. Something warm and soft, almost like musk. There's also notes of creamy soda icing sugar and a little herb & spice.
Sweet, oily and honeyed with some oak and spice. Quite chewy. A few seconds in the mouth and it's all sweet and fizzy - Wizz Fizz :)
Very long. Initially chewy and mouth watering then woody and quite dry.
When I first opened this whisky it was dominated by very unusual off notes which I'm beginning to recognise as the result of a "wide cut". A very distinct whisky which is hard to love and equally hard to forget. Try a freshly opened bottle for the full experience.

Old Potrero W/ water

Old Potrero
18th Century Style Whiskey 100% Rye
Apples, slight spice, and fresh cut grain. Better than without water
Spicy apple and pear. slight caramel. Also a hint of cooked banana.
Rye starts showing up and getting stronger.
Better with water than without. This is my first time having this with water. Very good.
