Rye Whisky Live Tasting - April 2-4, 2010

[Ganga]

Nose: brown sugar, almonds and hazelnuts, maple syrup and undercooked pancakes(different area of the glass), piney
Palate: almond praline, vanilla, peanut oils, nutmeg, crushed mint, woody-fresh
Finish: long, rich, spicey

This is a fantastic whiskey. Generally I like bourbons more than rye whiskies. This is something to rival the best bourbons I've tried.

A little contrast here since rye is a component in many bourbons. Joshua Brooks 8.

This is actually a lot sweeter. Rye grains are much stronger than in the Sazerac but diminished in comparison to the other two. Vanilla is readily apparent. Good whiskey but nothing compared to the ryes I just tried. Very interesting how similar, yet different this one is to the rye whiskies.

PVW 20 had almost no rye flavor but the Jeffersons Presidential 17yo had some nice rye spice on the palate and finish.

I can actually taste the rye grains in the whiskey. I guess that comes from spending so much time as a ute out on the farm.

I got some of that from the Ridgemont Resever 1792 but not many other bourbons.

Ridgemont Reserve, such fond memories. I recall that it has a stronger rye component than other bourbons.

I really need to grab another bottle as it is only $22 out here. A very nice whiskey at that price.
