As suggested by Ganga here is a thread for discussion of upcoming live tastings. The state of play in 2011 so far is:

January 28th-30th Keep the Peat Fires Burning (not quite over yet I think)
February 25th-27th 1980s Vintages
March 25th-27th 1990s Vintages

Lots to think about for the future ...

Actually we said the 80s and 90s. We never specified that it was the vintage. Granted, how many of us have a bottle that was bottled in the 80s just lying around.

I've got some Knockandos that I would like to do a tasting on. How can we incorporate this? "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" or some such? Anyone?

I'm strongly suggesting something for April event. For Gordon, St George's Day (4/23) we do English alcohols. It also happens to be William Shakespeare's birthday.

If me , i'm not that impressed by St Georges and don't own any and besides i'll be several miles away from England on that day enjoying a wee dram on the shores of Loch indaal.......

I was slightly surprised that your name was linked with English alcohol. No idea what I would drink at an English tasting. St George is pretty good for its age but not good enough for the money I think (I don't have any) and apart from beer, (which I don't drink much of) and Gin ( ) what else is there?

Or we could do any alcohol produced in a former colony of the UK, which would open up india (amrut), and lots of rums. I guess it would also open up all american whiskey, irish whiskey, and scotch. Sigh, that does make it very general.

Well how about opening it up to include those that are still part of the Commonwealth. Who would that include?

Edit: How about those places that hold St George as their Patron Saint? That would be England, Russia, Greece, India and a few other places.

Well since you will drink just about anything, how about my idea of any drink from a former or current British Colony that way just about everyone can contribute.

Well seeing we've just done the 80's and 90's why don't we continue in that vein and do the noughties. After all, we are already into a new decade and I've got some good stuff from the noughties.

Willie, not all whiskies require 3 years of aging. Besides, we never said they had to be distilled in the 00s.

How about 70's and earlier for May. Maybe Bourbon for June?

May is whisky festival season in Scotland and might be difficult for me, but I really want to participate in the 70s and earlier tasting so i'd prefer if it was pushed into another month, like June maybe?

What constitutes beginners drams? If this is what we are doing, I think we should kind of put together a list and maybe it should be OBs.
