One little whinge about the whole thing from the world outside the USA. Why do they call the winner 'World Champion'. It's an American Sport! Soccer/Football is the world game!

It's not as all-American as you make out. It takes a great deal from rugby. Very noticeable when you look at the early days of the game. Also, you'd be surprised at the number of players that have come from other parts of the world. There have been Europeans and Aussies that have played.

Yep, never quite liked the "world" thing myself... happens in NBA, MLB, NFL.... I guess it just makes them sound good. It was quite stupid for the NBA champs to be "world champs" during the year when the US team didn't even win the world championship...... sorry to go off topic.

To comment on an old post, I believe it is because they are acting under a (not entirely unfounded delusion), that because some most of these sports are "American" and there are no larger or more renown leagues outside of the "NBA, NFL, and MLB" for their sports, that they feel the winners of those leagues should be called World Champions. This is a bit funny because they come across as incredibly conceited by basically saying any team any other country puts together will lose to this team (most of the time?).

Unfortunately, one team in each moved due to financial concerns. Neither chose well and are still struggling financially. However, that still leaves a team from each league from Canada. Toronto's MLB team has won the World Series.

That is why I had America in quotes, as they are for the most part not limited to being a strictly US based leagues, but due to financial considerations they really only accept teams into the leagues that make financial sense to have teams travel to and from each stadium for their matches. Hence currently most of these are "North American Leagues" but primarily U.S.
