Edradour 18yo 1993 59% oloroso cask #301

Nose: Wonderful cask! Masses of rich Christmas cake, raisin mash and allusions to Edradour. Floral notes, chocolate and mocca. Plummy.
Palate: What an explosion of flavour on the palate. bursting with cocoa flavoured fruit cake, seasoned with cinammon sugar. A little rubber, but nothing to worry about.
Finish: Wonderful fizzy berry finish. A little heat, but well worth it.
Comment: If you only ever get to try one Edradour it should be this one. What a cask.

Nose: Rather tannic for HP. There's a sulphur taint here. Not enough to be a problem, but it rather changes the character of the malt. After a minute or two the heather honey comes through alongside and floral notes and barley sugar. Water softens it and reveals the HP.
Palate: Initial barley sugar quickly breaks into hot spice with black peppercorns and chilli. Water calms it, but leaves a rough sulphur edge.
Finish: Pretty fiery at full strength. Water helps a little but more water helps a lot, allowing it to become quite enjoyable.
Comment: Needs water for best drinking due to the sulphur. Its a shame, because there was a lovely spirit there once.
