January 2013 Tasting -- New Spirit for a New Year!

This January you can post reviews of things that are "new." Whatever that means to you, whether it is newly aquired bottles, newly opened bottles, or even new make, or very young whisky.

So for the New Year, lets see some new tastings!

I just opened a bunch of Laphroaigs. One that stood out to me was the Laphroaig 21. While still in your face, it had an elegance about it. I'm thinking that slap you get from a woman followed by a kiss on the cheek

Also, had a HTHTHTHTH of three 10 cask strength Laphroaigs.

Ye Auld Green Stripe
Red Stripe
Batch 1
Batch 3
Batch 4

All were very good. In your face peat yet each was slightly different in character. A little more smoke here, some apples there....... My favorite was the Green Stripe and least favorite was the Red Stripe. Of the three batches, I preferred Batch 1 but hey, they were all good.

Another newly opened Laph was the Sig 2000, 7 yo for Binny's. It is like getting into a ring with a peat boxer. I think I made it "7 rounds" with the champ.

Also opened a Sig UCF 11 yo. At 46% the peat presented itself in a more creamy fashion. I kinda liked it but still I think peat demands strength.
