Talisker 10 year old
Nose : Immediate whiff of sugery smoke, almost roasted spices
Palate : Lots going on, full and filling, smoke in the background, slightly peppery with sweet fruity bits coming later
Finish : Lingers on the back of the tongue, smoke all the way, turns a little bitter, then back to sweet...
Comment : Another one I can sit and drink all night, only been open a week and half gone already while others are left on the shelf for months.

{Talisker 18}]NOSE={Just poured it so I'll concentrate on the nose first. It's not often that I detect the same scents others do but when SOI said sweet peppery I felt I could smell the same. Could be my imagination got triggered by his words but there you go. I also feel it's a little vegetal - like a Rhum Agricole from Martinique would be. Maybe some pencil shavings - I'm not sure?}

I wish I had the 18 , do you guys think it deserves the WM award of 'Worlds Best Whisky?'. I was very impressed when I tried it a while ago. From what I remember it doesn't let you down at anytime and has everything you could ask for in a whisky

Talisker 10 yo (Map Carton) 45.8 abv
Nose : Iodine, smoke, a hint of floral heather and a caramel sweetness underlying all of these. I also pick up hints of malt this time around, something I never noticed before the online tastings we held.
Palate : Smooth and oily at first, drenches the tongue richly, then the firey pepper and hints of smoke start to rise. The sweetness identified in the Nose carries into the palate and is quite pronounced in this sample
Finish : Hot peppery, warming and after searing the tongue, moves to the roof of the mouth where it hangs on, prickling the mouth
Comment : Now, this is a perfect dram for the drizzling damp weather we're benfitting from today on Wooden Lake. Perfect for a cool, dull autumn day

Ah, you need to complete the full tasting notes, if it doesnt see all the NOSE= PALATE= etc then it doesn;t like it. Also you can delete the { and }... Don't worry the cleaners will tidy it up later

I think you have to click disable bbc code. Well I have a distillers edition to bring to the party Not tried it yet ever. Also doing some bbqed chicken wings in chineses marinade. I know its dark but we have 500w lamp for the grill. Also the rugby third place match is on. It's all good. [code][/code]

Mouth: a little oily and peppery - but much less so than the Caol Ila 12 for example. It has a tougher bite than I seem to remember. Feels like there's a little sherry matured whisky in it too. Strangely enough the taste of it lasts very long in the back of the mouth and throat after having swollowed. I'm intrigued, it's very good but also quite strange!

This one definately benefits from being in the glass for a while. Everything seems to come together and the scents get stronger in character. I love the nose and quite like the mouthfeeling of it - the finish is quite different from anything I've had so far.

Nose : The full peat / smoke / pepper experience at CS . Not as sweet as the 18yo , slightly nasal hair tingling .
Palate : This is the 10yo supercharged , Peppery as the fires of hell , straight from the lava of the Cuillins . very dry .
Finish : Very , very , long and Warming , smoky .
Comment : Why aren't all Tali's released at CS ? Incredible ! Fantastic Mouthfeel and finish .

Wow, sounds nice SOI. Is this the one which can be bought at the distillery or is it an exclusive offer to the "friends" ?

Also, I find the smoke to have a certain "sour" - very nice actually - quality which I've only found in Port Ellens and Springbanks. Do Talisker malt any of its barley themselves like PE and SB did/do?

Oh the nose is really opening up now - it's fantastic! So much better than I remember - and I seem to remember it was quite good!

I'm a "Friends of..." as well but don't seem to be able to easily access these offerings. Another reason we should never have been tossed out with the rest of the Commonwealth. Slightly nasal hair tingling? how hard to you inhale? Sounds delightful. wish it were moi!
As for the corks, I've had several crumble from my Lappies, so I cellowrapped them and stuck the cork remains back in the bottle neck.

It's discontinued by now then I suppose. Well, when I go to Scotland in a year or two I'll certainly keep my eyes open for something like this - or similar.

Talisker 25yo (59.9%)
Nose : Sweet , Sherry , still bags of smoke . quite tingly on the nose .
Palate : Very Mellow next to the previous two , definitely a strong sherried presence , the pepper doesn't appear till later along with a lot of spices and a slight christmas cake mix ..
Finish : Long , warming , glace cherries , white pepper .
Comment : Still got a lot of the Talisker kick , better than the older versions of Lagavulin but not up to the 25yo Caol Ila.

... the nose fades to a lighter shadow of itself with more floral notes and the Palate gives off more of the malty flavour and the sweet caramel is subdued, although the finish is maintained just not as powerful on the roof of the mouth.

Glace cherries and white pepper. Well said! I'm going to wait for you to get to the DE as I've the 1986 and would like to do a comparison of sorts. Until then, I'll enjoy the 10 yo.
