Note: I think I forgot to set a time limit on this. I will be viewing this next weekend to post to Matt what the choice is. Vote early.

Ok, I forgot to add in that we need to select a day for the March tasting. Suggestions? Also, now is the time to start making suggestions for the April poll.

I am really eager to try Springbank, so I voted for that. Only have one 'Laddie, the 1984, and no Balvenie or St. Magdalene. Do have one Rosebank though, a 20yo 1981 vintage so I guess that counts as a closed lowlander?

Having only tried the Founder's Reserve Balvenie and absolutely loving it I am keen to try more and would happily pick up a couple of other Balvenies for next month's tasting.

I voted Balvenie, simply because it's the one that I've got most expressions of. Would be happy with any of the others though, as I have/could easily get bottlings for all of them.

As for a date, I definitely can't do the weekend of the 21st (Easter weekend) - I'll be away for all of that. Any other weekend is good though.

And thinking about April... Talisker?

That would be fun, but a H2H of all 6 or 7 expressions (from a single year) would be an expensive excercise for most I guess, unless you already own them. They go for around 70 EUR here in NL..

But I'm sure a lot of forum members own a few, even from different vintages, so it sure sounds like a good idea.

I like the idea of a Friday night tasting. Any Friday in March but the 21st would work for me.

I voted for Balvenie, but don't mind really.

It would be nice to do a closed lowlanders tasting, but that could be awkward for folks that don't already have a stash. The other 3 are at least widely available.

21st of March will be fine for me barring any other sudden visitors from 1000s of miles away like last night . Still I musn't grumble as it was a good night. I almost logged on as I was coming up the stair to bed at 03.45, but I wasn't sure I would be able to work the keyboard .

I just remembered, (silly me!) I do have a few Bruichladdichs. I'm not sure if I'm ready to open them yet though, we'll have to see what happens if it's the distillery we choose or not...
(I could possibly be convinced to taste one I have in mind, a 10y from about the late 70's, early 80's bottling).

I agree - might be more chance of getting someone from the brand to join in if it's not on Good Friday so I favour 28th over 21st.

I finished my second bottle of Aberlour 10 last night and I'm getting a bit sickened by it now, but that's the only one I've tried.

Have we done Ardbeg? Was that part of the Laphroaig/Islay tasting? I know people here have loads of Ardbegs.

I voted for Balvenie but Bruichladdich would be fun as well. i'll need to pick up a few more bottles beforehand. I think with all of the different 'Laddie bottles it would have to be a weekend tasting instead of just one night.

As for April, I like the Talisker recommendation.

A vote for Bruichladdich here. It would be nice if it dosen't happen this month then a near one in the future. If for no other reason than the diversity of the Laddie expressions.

The other question is do the losers of each poll get sent to the end of the line? Lots of folk voted for Springbank and the Laddie here. Maybe they should get put up as options again soon.

Just sharing notes and opinions? Oh no, no, no it's so much more than just that. Oh wait, yes you're right - that's about the sum of it It's good fun. The last one is here and the Glenlivet one where Ian Logan joined in is here. I think if Matt gets enough notice he might try to get someone from the brand to drop in.

I voted Springbank as I have a couple of expressions and I might be so tempted to open the 14yo port finished cask strength, though 'Laddie & Balvenie are fine too but I don't think I've got any lowlands(!), easily fixable. I can do the 21st but I'll be on late since I work the evenings that week, the 28th would be much better!

Why not a Saturday?

It would sure allow those of us on the left coast of the left continent to have a lot more fun.....

If there are really good reasons for Friday, then we will deal with it. But drinking from Noon-5pm(PST) would be a lot more fun than reading about people drinking from noon-5pm(PST). (5pm(PST) is about the time that I can get home and start drinking)
