I'm generally out on Friday night too, but not too late these days.

Saturdays I'm generally spending time with my other half.

I'll just try and join in whatever night it's on at some point.

As a rotating shift worker for the last 30 years I'm not even sure what a real weekend is!! :o
Either day is fine with me unless I'm at work or going in that night.

Cheers!

Well, this seems to have been a good choice for March as I see 31 votes so far. Remember, I will PM Matt at the end of the weekend. Also, I am going to start a poll for the date. Four choices March 21, 22, 28, 29.

I've reviewed through the suggestions for April: Aberlour, Macallan, Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Talisker. It seems as if we've chosen all these forgotten distilleries for April.

Ok, folks last chance to vote as I send a message tonight to Matt.

Also, do not forget to vote on a date in the other poll. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7891

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it wasn't quite being dicontinued - just that there might be less of it, or something..?

Now why would they do a silly thing like that? I'll be the first to say that I think the DW is a much better beverage but I think there are a group of people out there that believe the Founder's Reserve is not only a better libation but also a better representation of the distillery.

That said, I may have to get one before they go bah-bye.

Any clues as to the replacement? Or are we to guess that all of this is in favor of getting the "new wood", "sherry wood" expressions?

I like their baseline (10, 12, 15) better than the 17s and 21 expressions.

Eh! What? (Musky just waking up out of his early morning stupor)

Is this the old rumour chestnut being revived or have Balvenie been telling us falsehoods for the last two years? I assume that Founders Reserve will be replaced with a higher priced, lower aged offering at an inflated price if this turns out to be true.
:x
I certainly won't be running willy-nilly down to the LC to purchase the "last" FR or it's suspected subsequent replacement anytime soon, I can assure you.

Musky are you developing cynicism over the marketing of whisky? That's hard to understand.

The B_ _ ... can't say that here, eh?

So they've been playing us along, while at the same time, my sources in the Industry have been assuring me that it was being discontinued. For two years. Guess my contacts were 100% correct.

I am very disappointed in Balvenie.

...And considering I was originally studying to become an artist and work in marketing, I already knew that marketing and lying are interchangeable words in that field. I will gladly go sit in a darkened room, of my choosing, however, with SM close at hand to drown my sorrows with.

Nick, they forgot to mention the "for more money part". Me, I'm just happy that it is the FR instead of the DW.

Me, get Blotto? What are you trying to say? :P Yes, I plan to be there for you all. Of course, I'd find it hard to get Blotto on strickly 3 miniatures but there are always those Aberlours for afterwards.

I really like FR and will be buying up loads of it to not only keep for future drinkies, but to well and truly demolish in the near future. And of course the live tasting.

Balvenie Samples

Good news from the disitllery, they are sending some product my way for samples. If you would like some samples of the Balvenie range please let me know by PM with these details:

Subject : Gimme some Balvenie
Your name :
Full address :
I confirm I am over 18 or of legal drinking age in the country I reside.

And please list any Balvenies you already have so we don't waste any samples.

This offer is open to anyone, anywhere, but we may not be able to get samples beyond Europe. Will do our best in the time left.

There's also a good chance there will be a special guest or two, just waiting for confirmation.

Matt2

Anyone else getting a wee bit antsy for the Balvenie Tasting? There's still a number of days to go and we're about a month past the HP tasting.

Also, don't forget to request any needed samples from Matt.

Nice reminder Ganga thanks. I've requested from Matt and with the holiday now upon us, (Easter Thursday through Tuesday, with a few hours open on Saturday) no mail delivery probably until next week, just in time to enjoy.

Sweet!! I just found out yesterday that the wonderful State of Maine now has the Balvenie Trio pack available. So obviously I've ordered one for the March Tasting! (Hopefully they have it in stock). Saves me from going out to buy a bottle of the Balvenie DW, as Balvenie isn't one of the regulars in my cabinet. :D

Are we on for this Friday then? If so, that should work perfectly as my mom and brother are visiting on Saturday. And the missus already has a show she wants to watch Friday night so that means we should be staying in.

Y'Know, all you gotta do is ask and we can do a mini tasting on Friday.
:D
We can also do the Saturday if you are allowed to.

I'll drink whatever you have on Friday if you are so inclined. I have a few Balvenies as you know, but am willing to try something different if it will help the cause.

Ok, took my big sack down to the post office and all the samples have gone out. Depening on what you had already you will get a :

Double Wood
Signature 12 years old (bacth 001)
Single Barrel 15 years old
Portwood 21 years old

Thanks to Balvenie / William Grant for sending the product over, and replacing the 2 Portwoods that got broken.

Sorry, but no samples to the US or Canada this time round. I really need to work how to do it legally and without it costing £50 in postage.... Got some ideas and will get it sorted...

Looking forward to a good session on Saturday.
