I've just enjoyed the 15 whilst watching the second half. Extra time to go.

I have to agree with Nick Oranges and toffee an absolute delight. One thing these tastings show me is how good so many of these whiskies are and we don't explore them enough.

It seems like I am really just not getting the 21 and 30 year old tonight. Tonight the 21 makes me think of a dessert wine. The 30 is a bit broader on the nose for me but also along the same lines. I certainly enjoyed the nose on both and am going to call it quits tonight and come back to them another day.

Starting off with the Glenfiddich 12.

n> orange and oak. spicy.
t> spicey, oaky and honey. Some of that orange is still here
f> Not as long as the 15 CS. Sweet and malty with a ouch of bitter dryness

Nick in the grand scheme of Glenfiddich things. Where would you put the Solera?

Finishing up with the 18YO. Once again a lot more attractive than I remember, maybe absence does make the heart grow fonder. Not just orange, more mixed peel with a lovely fudgey note too

18yo now.

First real signs of wood on the nose. Vanilla notes in amongst the oranges. Rhubarb.

Vanilla custard with stewed oranges ... This tastes older than it is, but not in a bad way. The wood has really added to the whisky at this point, giving it real depth and complexity. I can see why everyone is impressed with this. I hope the father's day deal on this has not disappeared 'cause I'm getting some.

Finish is shorter and slightly less exciting than the 15, but the palate more than makes up for it. Sensational dram.

Hard to say Willie. I really liked the 18, he 15CS and I love the Toasted Oak.
30 yo to go and then I have to decide. How about you?

I've enjoyed the 12 and 15 so far, but the 18 is really excellent. Sound's like I'll have to lay my hands on a toasted oak though as I don't have one. Just been working through Matt and Ian's samples up to now. Will try something else later.

Ganga and all..

since Glenfiddich changed into new packaging in September 2007,
the company started using only the age statements on the packaging for 12yo, 15yo, 18yo, 21yo etc. However, the liquid is exactly the same as before, for example the GF 15yo is still Solera.

The 18 yo I just picked up in the new canister still says "Ancient Reserve".

I've found the 12 and the 15 to have changed somewhat since I first had them back many moons ago. Although I don't notice a real difference in the 18.
