Glenfiddcih Live Tasting - Favorite

It's late on Saturday or early Sunday (depends on your perspective) and much tasting of the Glenfiddich I thought we could select our favorites. I glanced at the list to put together the choices but if I missed one you can always choose other and specify.

I am not differentiating between the various 12s, 18s and 21s as Ian indicated they were the same product.

I voted the 15CS, with the 18 Ancient Reserve being a close 2nd. I really enjoyed exploring the Glenfiddich range. I didn't try anything older than the 18yo, so I can't compare to the others.

I'll try the samples again, especially the 21 and 30, and vote before the close. At the moment I'm thinking about voting for the 18.

The Oldie was the Goldie for me.

The 30 just had an extra dimension I've come to appreciate in my (limited) experience of older whiskies...like taking the best and giving it a constant subplot. Have'nt had too many, but, while they remain recognisably of a certin distillery, there's just that...mmm factor, a refined dryness that seems to underpin and meld the flavours, bringing out mesmeric subteties...

Also noticed this same thing in the 1946 Macallan(sample only- courtesy of Bob Dalgarno!) the 36 YO Longmorn SMWS Rasta Malt, and Ardbeg 1977(which may not actually be that old...but it was like the 10 with a subplot!)

But I doubt I can afford a bottle of GF 30!!

I'd be happy to have the 15(again) or the 18 in my collection. The 15 had it on smoothness, the 18 on finish. both great drams.

I dream of a CS version of either!

Glenfiddich definitely has regal tendencies!

If it was not for the 15 CS I would say the 18yo (lots of character). But the 15CS was the winner for me, great spice and overall a great dram. But the only way I think that I can get it is duty free.... bummer

Mikey, I see the GF 15 CS (51%) at several stores here in the US. Is this a different whisky than the duty-free version?

Someone, Matt maybe, did this for one of the previous tastings. I like the idea of favorite instead of best. Subjectivity is allowed free reign because people are allowed to use whatever factors they want-price, quality, etc-and proportion it out to come out with a personal favorite.

Yes, I think these will be very interesting to do each time. However, I'm not sure how to handle the a'bunadh as I believe that most of the batches from 6 through 23 will be brought to the table.

As for myself, I voted based on the Glenfiddich's I had Saturday which means I selected the Cask Strength. It just had that extra something at 51% that surpassed the others. I have had the 30 and plan to purchase a bottle in the near future as I think it is one of the better buys for a 30 yo OB. It has a lot to offer...at least for me.

I find the poll very interesting as there seems to be a spread throughout the range when quality (from personal perspective) is balanced with cost. Seems to me the winner is

I voted the 18, with the Toasted Oak 12 a very decent dram

The 18 for me, followed be the 30. The nose on the 15 is gorgeous, but the palate doesn't live up to it for me. The 21 is good but a bit too sweet and the 12 is a bit of a non-entity IMO.
