July 2008 Live Tasting - Aberlour Samples

July 2008 Live Tasting - Aberlour Samples

Postby Matt2 » Mon Jun 30, 2008 2:11 pm

Hi all,

Ian is organising the product for us and on offer will be :

Aberlour 10yo
Aberlour 12yo
Aberlour 16yo
Aberlour 18yo

If you want samples please PM me with the subject 'Aberlour Samples', your name, full address, statement you are over 18 and the samples you need.

You are also expected to take part in the live tasting, not just free samples for you to drink in private, we want to hear what you think about them. If you don't take part you may not get any next time. Seems fair?

We are also trying to get some into the US, Canada and Europe, so everyone can apply for samples and I will see what can get sorted.

ps... I was going to ask for Abunadh batches 1 to 23 but thought that may be a bit cheeky, and a bottling nightmare for me :P But will be good to hear about various batches if anyone has them open.

Yes, very fair, and I'm guilty as charged for this for the Glenfiddich samples from the last live tasting. I will eventually be adding my notes to that tasting, but very belatedly thanks to work having got in the way recently. Truth be told, I haven't even had the luxury of having enough time to myself to sit down with the Glenfiddich samples yet, so they're all still unopened and will have to remain so until Thursday or Friday this week. Sorry Matt, and indeed everyone else.

No problem Tross, it's understandable as we all have things going on from time to time. I think the point that Matt is trying to make is that the people who ask for samples, participate in the Tasting some way. I always look forward to reading your notes, so I'll keep my eye out for yours on the Fiddich Live Tasting Thread!

Thanks for managing to sort out samples for this Matt. Especially as the lead time is much shorter than it was for the last tasting.

I really enjoy getting the samples and its good to have the latest bottlings to compare with older ones as well as the independents. I'm really looking forward to this one and have a feeling that many A'bunadhs (from me and from others) will surface over the course of the evening.

Cheers

Matt,
thanks for this discussion, but you didn't say when the tasting would be?

From the poll it looks like, maybe, sort of, ish .... July 26th ????

If so, then I would try my bestest to be out of the pub that day and participate. I could certainly join in much later, around midnight, as worst case scenario.

But can you get the samples to me in Germany?
There are no customs, no problems, just a small packet in the normal post.

Damn, I don't think I could make the 19th :(

I'm trying to plan a little, or really quite large (by which I mean LONG) party at the pub that night.

TO celebrate my Birthweek. :P

By the way, you don't have to be there exactly at the time advertised. As long as you join in within say 2-3 days thats OK. I know it's hard to get the free time...

The benefit of being on-line the first day is that you get to have interaction with other members discussing the same beverage (and potentially a represntative for the distillery.

I know, I really pay attention to the posts that follow-up over the next several days as people have commitments come up at the last minute.

I agree it's only fair that if you ask for samples then you contribute to the forum, preferably on the night but otherwise at a time that suits. It's good to share views on the whisky. I look forward to receiving some samples (touch wood/forehead). It would be cheeky to ask for 23 samples of Abunadh but possibly one sample wouldn't be too cheeky! I was going to buy a bottle of the 15 yo but may wait and buy one of the samples provided.

Matt, Dave the postie has been this morning, Thankyou very much for the samples. You'll have to let us know how much we owe you.

I'm looking forward to the tasting. If its as good as the Glenfiddich it will be excellent. :)

No amples here yet, but I suspect they take longer to get to the Teutonic extremities.

Hmmm - I just realized that my Aberlour inventory consists of all a'bunadhs - 14, 18, and 21. Might be a good time to crack 'em. . .

It's Saturday morning and the samples still haven't arrived here in Bayern yet.

Hopefully they will be in the post today and I will then be able to try them and report on the forum Sunday or Monday evening.
