The strange looking building to the right is Warehouse No 2 & cask Filling. Known as the T-Syphon was built in 1949 and designed by a young grad of Trinity College Dublin and based on a building in the ancient city of Ure in Iraq. :o

A brilliant day for the visit, Adrian!
It was a pleasure to share my visit around Locke's in your company too.

It could do with a lick of paint, couldn't it? Very interesting. Did you hear anything about their plans for the future?

Was chatting to them on Sunday in the Phoenix Park.
There's plans for a sherried Connemara to be released before Christmas, and it looks like the Greenore 15 yo may be a once off.
Otherwise, I'm currently arranging to have a wander around Cooley itself, so hopefully when that happens I might be able to extract a bit more info out of them.

Very good, if you could find out what they'll be doing with Kilbeggan - "single" malt, pot still etc - that would be very interesting.

You mean the distillery itself, or the whiskey?
They said to me on Sunday that the spirit distilled at Kilbeggan is still far too young for them to even consider what they're going to do with it. I didn't think to ask how much they've distilled so far, or whether it was pot-still or single malt.
As for the Kilbeggan brand, sure they have that 15 yo limited edition just out. And with a sherried Connemara due out before Christmas, I'd imagine the only possible news for Kilbeggan might relate to that mysterious 16 yo some people are talking about (assuming it's not actually Tyrconnell, of course.)

I was really wondering if they're going to put more stills into Kilbeggan and if they're going to make malt or pot still there from scratch. Currently, as you know, they redistill stuff from Cooley. I'm not even sure what they can call this - Irish malt whiskey, I suppose.

I'll make a point of asking them that.
On the one hand, it seems foolish of them to go to the expense of re-opening Locke's to a functioning capacity and then not go all the way and properly start distilling there.
But on the other, money is tight and perhaps it's making them a decent few quid as a tourist attraction/storage and redistillation facility.
I suspect they have some great and wondrous plans for the place that currently the chequebook and orders book doesn't justify implementing.
But I'll make a point of putting it to them when I do get to go visit.
