Abunadh Batch 24?

Postby Caledonia » Tue Nov 11, 2008 4:20 pm

Has anyone tasted this yet, i am a fan of the abunadh's and just saw it at a great price in waitrose..however im going to tasting where ill try it in about a month

Do i wait till that tasting or do i grab it cheaper while i can.

Whats the notes on it, and comparisons to older batches?

Thanks .

I really wish I liked this stuff. A clean CS sherry monster for £25. What a bargain.

Trouble is it still tastes of Aberlour, which I don't like for some annoying reason.

The deal wont last or the stock wont last. Grab it while you can. At the end of the day it is a quality CS malt for £25. How can you go wrong?

I agree with you Woody. Caledonia's location. I think there might be a clue in his signature. I might be wrong though

I'm going to Waitrose on Wed next week and hopefully they will have some then that I can grab. If not then I think either the Tali DE or Laga DE will be bought (maybe both  )

Just to complicate things but if you want a batch 24 you might want to hurry because there were no batch 24 left in my Waitrose as of tonight - only batch 25.

Whether there'll be any more batch 24 coming in I have no idea, but if you have to have the 24 it might be a good idea to buy it now just in case.

I've got the 22 open at the moment and it is very good. Have an unopened 24 so cannot pass on any views. At £25-26 it is a steal for such a consistently high quality CS. Stock up now would be my advice if you like big sherried speysides.

Must be taking the pack mules some time to climb the mountains. Here at 6,500' we're still on 21. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Still had some batch 25 in the Cheltenham Waitrose, perhaps that's why it's only £25 a bottle !!! Cleared the shelf except for one bottle, thought I'd leave a bottle for someone else, it's nearly Christmas, season of goodwill and all that stuff !!!!

Paid a visit to the Aberlour distillery last week, not sure what batch they are up to now, but the tasting went very well indeed. Picked up a bottle of the 16 year double cask - sherry finish, v. nice, sweet !!!!

Cheers

No chance! My local Waitrose in Banstead burned to the ground last night(sniff)

no human fatalities thank God, but i mourn the loss of all those Lagavulin DEs, Talisker 18s, Nadurras, and whatever batch of Abunadh they were on.

why, if i catch the varmint who did this, I'll tie him to a chair and force feed him a bottle of Dunglas...

What sad news Reggaeblues, but as you said, at least no one hurt !

Popped into Waitrose Cheltenham today (not for more whisky I hasten to add !)
They had restocked the shelves, about half a dozon bottles of a'bunadh, still batch 25, still £25 !

Being a novice to this malt whisky tasting, has anyone noticed much difference between the batches, is each batch a different cask?

Cheers

Waitrose Sudbury only had one bottle of #25 on the shelves today, it was still £25 as well.

Each batch is pretty big, a good few thousand so it'd be a vatting between 15-20 casks (depending on how big the casks were). So to answer the question, yes there can be a fair bit of differentiation. Some members swear by no.14 for example, it all depends on your own tastes.

Thanks for the info cathach,
Having a couple of bottles of batch 25 in store (well the wardrobe ! ) will be interesting to see what batch Aberlour will be on when I get near the end of the second bottle, even more interesting to do a nose/taste comparison !

Thanks Ryguy

Heard about the ice storms in the N/E States, hope you've got more than just whisky to keep you warm ! (By that I mean electricity ! )

Hi Ganga, three bottles of batch 21, way to go you lucky boy !

As stated earlier I was at the Aberlour distillery two weeks ago (avatar pic taken in the warehouse/tasting room !) but being a complete novice to the malt whisky world, I now have loads of questions I could have asked, ah well, I'll have to plan a return trip in the new year

Will also have to introduce myself on the new members forum !

Cheers

There are tasting notes on most of the a'bunadhs from batch 6 through 23 in the Live Tasting thread for Aberlour. I believe the only two missing are batches 19 and 22 in this run.

I'm still waiting for Batch 21 to disappear in the LA market. Hi-Time has an over-abundance of them. Bevmo and W&L Depot are also well stocked with 21. Grr. I'm yet to try Batch 19, 22, 24 and now 25.
