Being a newbie dont expect me to pick up all the aromas and flavors. Im writing these reviews to give people a feel for how a "new" palate might experience a Whisky. I will be giving a 0-3 Rating on a Whisky from now on.
0 = Will not finish
1 = Will not buy again
2 = May buy again
3 = Will buy again
Speyburn 10yo 43% (Rating: 2)
Nose - Weak, apples, simple
Mouth - Thin
Palate - Apples, Cinnamon, Sugar, simple, not complex, moderate alcohol.
Finish - Moderate Alcohol, otherwise mild and short.
Water - Turns it bitter
Note: Would be a good first Whisky if it took better to water and had less alcohol burn.
Glenmorangie 10yo 43% (Rating: 1)
Nose - Lemon, Fruit, Complex
Mouth - Moderate
Taste - Lemon, Fruit, Sugar, Complex, Bitter Aspirin
Finish - Severe Alcohol, Sugar, Bitter Aspirin
Water: Simply mellows it out and reduces the bitter aspirin.
Note: Taste like I dumped BC Powders in it.
Conclusions:
Speyburn 10yo 43%
Other than being a little mellow and the flavors being a little to mild to hide the alcohol I dont see whats so bad about Speyburn. I could see myself drinking it on a hot summer evening when something lighter is called for.
Glenmorangie 10yo 43%
I really wanted to like this one. I just cant get by the bitter aspirin at this point in my SMSW journey. Sorry Glenmorangie lovers. I may retry with a more experienced palate.
