Caol Ila Distilers Edition

Postby Drammed » Tue Oct 13, 2009 7:37 pm

Does anybody have any notes on this whisky? I did a search but didn't find much.

Cheers

Here are two links. The first one is a tasting note of a DE 1996 and the second one is unspecified, the third one is a 1993 DE.

I hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for the links. It looks like here is too much wine influence from the Muscat for most people's liking. There is only 2 Caol Ila bottles that I can get from the BC liquor board. This and the 8 yr unpeated

Sorry, I just realized I've missed a link. I'll post the tasting note of the DE NAS again.

Hey Drammed:

I have a bottle of this and really enjoy it: it's actually my favourite Caol Ila available at the moment - well, maybe the Cask strength as well...

Anyway, I like it: it's uncomplicated and I doesn't feel like it's trying to be anything it isn't. However, it's very easy to drink and is a really nice moderately peated whisky.

Is it amazing? No, definitely not. But I think it is a really enjoyable whisky.

In BC, it's a bit of a gamble because of the high BCLDB cost (i.e. I bought a 1 liter bottle of this a month ago in Europe and paid about 65 Euros; in BC the 750ml bottle is something like $114! So, your money might be better spent else where, but it's certainly not bad - and I think quite enjoyable - by any means...

Cheers!

Thanks for the input Knolly. A nice easy sipping whisky can be had for less than the $114 price tag that the BCLDB charges, so maybe if I get a few more pennies together I can get one, or get one at duty free. It is just such a high price when I can grab a Talisker 10 for $77 or a LQC for $80 or an A'bunadh for $83.
