Talisker 25 - a deal?

Postby Jobi » Sun Oct 18, 2009 2:55 am

I just picked up a couple bottles of Talisker 18, and there were bottles of Talisker 25 offered at the same price ($77). I'm not sure which release it was, but I think the ABV might have been 57.?%. Is this just a good deal or is there an unpopular release of this on the market that maybe does not sell so well?

I don't know of any Talisker 25yo being bad. I say buy it, hell buy me a bottle why you are at it. Change that buy all of them and sell them to people for $100.

They all seem to get good ratings on Whiskyfun.

I just checked the price at TWE in England. FYI you would have to pay the equivalent of around USD200 there for aTali 25.

I may have said this before but,

BUY BUY BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There seems to be something going on over there with that bottle. It is an amazing deal for that price. I agree with the buy recommendations.

$77 for a 25 YO Talisker? It is about a third of the price!
Run and buy them all!

$77 for the 18 is pretty darned good, too. Hell, Binny's sells the 10 for $65.

Buy them all!

Either someone got a great deal and is passing it on to the customers, they're mispriced or someone is trying to move out stock. Typically any batch of the 25 sells for $175 to $250 out here.

Well ,it was tough to wade through the varying opinions given above, but I was able to come to a decision and I picked up a couple bottles. Thanks to all for the advice. Next time don't be so subtle.

If it's the liquor store I think it is ($79.99, as I remember; I bought three), they got a great deal. A clerk there told me they acquired literally half of the bottling run, which means they have thousands. That seems improbable for sure, but so far its spot on the shelf has been bottomless. (I thought the row of Longmorn 15 at $39.99 was bottomless, too, but as of the weekend before last someone finely came along and cleared it out.) The price goes up for the holidays at the end of the month, apparently, but it won't go up by much.

The same place is selling the Talisker 175th for $49.99, which is great, given that I prefer it to the 18 yo.

These guys are high-volume, and while they beat even the most reasonable stores in the city by $5 to $10 a bottle, these Talisker deals are the first I've seen there worthy of cartoon double-takes. That said, I don't think anyone's been moving the 175th at its retail of $100, not esp. when it's priced higher than the 18 yo. So it may be they're tired of sitting on their stock. Fortunately for the locals they aren't on line!

Don't forget, there are a lot of counterfeit products in Brooklyn stores. I'd inspect bottles very closely (compare to originals) before buying.
