Caol Ila CS or Bowmore 17 which do you prefer?

I totally agree with Nick. I think the CI is a lot more fun than the Bowmore. Maybe if you are looking for subtlety then the Bowmore might be the way to go, but if you want action then its no contest.

Tough call here for me, DT.

The Bowmore takes the cake if it's balance, subtlety, degree of complexity and that added input from selective use of Sherry casks that takes priority. Lovely whisky bottled at a perfect age when at its best.

But oh the Caol Ila. Much drier. A switchblade of a whisky! Very appetizing and invigorating. If you add a touch of water, a slight creaminess appears. That said, I really like it as it pours.

Let us know what you think of it DT. I've only had the Bowmore 17, which I liked a lot ... until the finish. Very disappointing!

While generally I will take Bowmore over CI, the 17 is one of the few that I just don't get.
