Macallan 18/ 1992

Hello Gentlemen-- Greetings to all!

I'm re-stocking Macallan 18, and my local shops are selling "1992".

I am wondering if anyone has tasted this, and if you had any input or notes on the 92?

I'm just finishing off my last bottle of Mac 18 which is "1989", which was sweet, creamy, and rich, but had a little bitterness from a bit too much oak. Interestingly, after several months of being opened the bitterness/oakiness has seemed to mellow bit, leaving it much more balanced, quite delcious and rich.

Just wondering if the 92 had any of this bitterness in the finish? At $150 a bottle, I want to make sure I'm gonna love it!

92 is goodness.

I am a Mac 18 fan. From about the 89 vintage they have gotten better (better than 80-86). Seems to have better sherry influence. Not really more sherry, but better sherry, richer, more spice, no harsh notes.

look for it for less than $150...

To add to what Mikey said, the 1992 is getting back towards the more heavy olorosso qualities that were very evident in the 1977, 78 and 79 vintages. The 80s vintages were much lighter in this aspect. Since 1989, I have noticed an increasing trend back towards the 70s style.

Glad to hear the 92's are nice!

That's why I like Mac 18 for that rich, sweet, sherry influence; but my 1989 bottles had a little oak/bitterness in the finish. Happy to hear it's not in the 1992's, I'll be stocking up this week.
