Glenfiddich 18

Picked up another bottle tonight. First impression: (nose) Smells strong, floral, slightly fruity, vanilla... Taste: (neat) more alcohol taste/burn then I expected. Slightly fruity, apples come to mind, vanilla for sure. Taste: (tspn mineral water) alcohol taste nearly gone. Very creamy smooth, large amounts of vanilla, slightly fruity but more so then neat. Much much better.

Ultimately I'm shocked to say that I'm more impressed with the Glenfiddich 15. I can't believe I'm saying it but the 18 did not live up to my expectations. For an 18 your better off with Glenlivet; (I've saved half a bottle of the stuff and its been very hard not to drink it).

I will say that I have had 2 bottles of Glenfiddich 18, one of which was about a 75 and the other was about and 85 on a 100 point scale. I personally feel that it is very variable and to not give up on it just because of one bottle.

I still rate it high on my personal rating scale. It's what I'd consider a good scotch. So I do plan to buy it again. I absolutely love the 15 so I expected the 18 to be hands down better but it wasn't. That's not to say it isn't quite good itself. I do prefer the Glenlivet 18 over it though.

Had about the same desception when first tasting the Glenfiddich 18 y old. But it did'nt come to my mind to add some water to open it up. Gonna give that a try next time I have a dram of the Gelfiddich 18 y old.

I think that Glenfiddich 18yo is a lovely dram. I've not noticed huge batch variation, but I drink it quite infrequently so that may be why. Nevertheless, if you want a late teen OB these days its hard to beat for value (except possibly with the Glenlivet).

There is one other really affordable 18 OB and that is the Tomatin 18. The three run around 55-60 in my area so it really comes down to what I am looking for at the moment. Malty, tropical fruits, or more of a sherry influence.

The consensus among many is that the 15 Solera is superior (an opinion I hold), but that being said, the 18 is very good. I like both.

The Solera obviously has the sherried characteristics that many (including me) like, but I don't think its a better whisky than the 18yo.

I wouldn't go with consensus. Rather many believe the 15 is better. I personally think the 18 is more complex but the 15 hits more of what I enjoy.

The Glenfiddich 18 year old is a pleasing, easy-going Speyside single malt...I liked it more than Glenfiddich 15...it is more complex, but I would not seek this 18 year old to be my sole drink of choice because there are better ones.

My dad is a huge Glenfiddich fan so I put both the 15 and 18 on my Christmas whisky bar last year so we could have a tasting comparison. I recall thinking that the 15 was slightly fruiter but less complex. The 18 was more about balance and smoothness as opposed to in-your-face flavour. For the money I would probably choose to purchase the 15 over the 18 but the 18 is very drinkable.

Ok had a taste of this fabulous bottle of whisky,,, now im a whisky drinker but this showd me that there is more 2it then jus drinkiing!!!! cos adding that touch of water really brings out the besst in it......

I like both.

As do I. That said, the most recent bottle of Glenfiddich 18 Year Old I opened was stupendous, with the honey and spices playing off one another in sterling fashion.

I remember liking the 15 better than the 18, last time I had them (which was not both at the same time). I've got a bit of the 18 right now, and I think it's very good. It should have appeal to most all Scotch whisky drinkers.

Personally, I prefer the 18 to the 15 - i find it a little deeper and more complex.
