Best drink after a few too many.

Postby bamber » Mon Jul 05, 2004 12:09 pm

I've noticed that I nearly always go for sweeter whiskies, when coming in after a night out, after a having quite a few .

Usually Macallan 10YO or Aberlour a’bunadh. In fact I ususally sit there marvelling at just how tasty they are and wonder why I drink anything else.

Does anyone else have favourites when tipsy ?

If I've had a few too many, then it's fair to say that I'm probably not going to appreciate the subleties and complexities of a particularly special dram.

So I tend to go for a quaffing malt, or maybe just a heavy Islay dram.

Cheers,

If you've had too many then an old sock will taste good.

After a few too many, I'd have the spirit equivalent of a kebab - Laphroig 10.

2 things for a night of overindulgence:
22 oz. cherry slurpee from 7-11.
theraflu shooter: 1 packet of theraflu mixed into a 1.5 oz of boiling water. stir and quaff in a single shot.

after those two i'm ready to rock.

After too many, a good single malt is wasted on me so I'd usually have a cheap blend or a Canadian Whisky.

Aidan, I try very hard not to purchase bad single malts.

And I'm not saying Canadian Whisky is bad, just less complex so it doesn't need as serious a nose and palate to enjoy it.

Harry - I understand. Sure I was only joking.

The thing is, with me, if I've had too many, I'm probably not capable of making a reasoned decision like what's appropriate to drink.

I always go for water, too. Water and crackers, usually. Not very exciting, but it keeps me upright and (eventually) ready for more of the good stuff.

Anytime I'm even slightly tipsy around bedtime, I drink a full glass of water before climbing into bed. It usually means a trip to the bathroom during the night, but it's better than hang-over symptoms.

I usually continue with whatever got me tipsy in the first place! And of course, water before going to bed.

Though little more than forty-twa,
My head is bleached like Lapland snaw,
By drinking gills o' whisky raw
My head it totters;
And when I write, my shaking paw
The paper blotters.

Apart from that, I'm fine :D

The baby was obviously pleased when he realised the bottle was the single malt and not the vatted one! :)
