The Ultimate Whisky Mac?

I decided to see if a duff bottle of sherrywood Springbank still worked in a mix, so tried it in a "whisky mac" with some ginger wine. It more or less worked, and certainly good enough for a hip flask when the nights draw in. But this got me thinking, so I spent a happy time adulterating different whiskies with ginger wine, and concluded that a bit of peat and smoke, but not too much, worked best - Littlemill just got overwhelmed, and Laphroaig was too much. And then I came across a long-forgotten bottle of Berry Brothers "The King's Ginger Liqueur", 40% abv., and tried it 50/50 with Highland Park (Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottling 11 years old at 57.4%). Wow! This may just be the ultimate whisky mac. Heresy? Sacrilegious treatment of a great whisky? Who cares? Well worth trying.
