Has anybody tried the SMWS Queen St. commemorative bottling from Longrow?
It hasn't yet reached us in Japan, but I've heard a lot about it from contacts in the UK.
I´ve tasted it a few weeks ago, it´s quite an unusual whisky, it´s heavy fruity on the nose, the peat is in the background.
Are you sure it will be sold in Japan?
As far as I know it´s supposed to be sold only in the Edinburgh Members Rooms.
I tried it a few days ago at the new Queen Street venue and I was not fond of it, one of the few Society malts that I have not liked. I like Longrow and generally prefer the sherried 10 year OB. I didn't read the tasting notes but I think this cask was had some bourbon in it's past. It was interesting but I soon moved onto another malt.
I think it´s definitely a whisky that needs air to breathe before being drunk.
In fact I´m not sure what to think of that Longrow, the smell and taste reminded me a little bit of "Obstler" or "Obstwasser". Juniper berries are also present.
