I am thinking of Buying a Brora

It makes sense if you have read my topic on Port Ellen on Q&A.
Because I wonder about the price???
Is it worth paying sixty pounds plus for this malt?
I have read some tasting notes and it sounds like its up my street.
Have you tasted it?
What do you think of it?

Hi Ian ,
I've had about 11 brora's ,a couple have been average , a few have been great and a couple have been outstanding .There's a great one on the current uk SMWS list (61.12) its very like the previous rare malt release with a little extra bite.The best one i've had was a Douglas Laing Platinum selection 1972/29yo at 59.5% , it was everything you've ever read about Brora Peat,Iodene ,Maritime ,such a monster we nicknamed it "Brorzilla"!
I was looking forward to the new "distillery" release but UDV are just taking the mickey at £200 a bottle .

Gordon is so right!

The Douglas Laing Platinum Selection is the tops. In fact, if I was forced to select one single malt as the only one I could drink for the rest of my life - OK, I know it's unreal (at least I hope it is!) - it's the one I would choose.

Has anyone tasted the new Brora Signatory Unchillfiltered 1981?

I got a bottle of the Signatory 1981, but won't be opening it until Christmas. It's about the only Brora around at the moment at a manageable price (just over £40), so I hope it's good. It ought to be: I've never had a duff Brora (in contrast to Clynelish, which seems to be either wonderful or dull, with nothing in between).
