Tasting order?

I'm hosting a tasting night for some friends shortly, and will probably be featuring 5 malts, varying between light speysider(s) to a heavy islay.

If two of the malts were Glenmorangie 10 and Glenlivet 12, which order would you present these two in, and why?

I have my own thoughts, of course, but I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

Hello Admiral,

I'd say the Glenlivet first, then the Glenmorangie.

Too long ago that I had the Livet 12, but I remember it as lighter SMS, where the Glenmorangie is fuller.

Have to check later though, if I can find my notes, I'll edit my reply.

I would go with Rudy, first the Glenlivet, then the Glenmorangie
Not because the Glenlivet is lighter, but because the Glenlivet is more subtil. As the Glenmorangie is more robust, it will be hard the recognise some of the subtile tastes in the Glenlivet after tasting the Glenmorangie first.

Just my 2 cents.

Which are the other whisky's and what order do you serve them?

I'm proposing the order as follows:

Glenlivet 12
Glenmorangie 10
Highland Park 12
Macallan 12
Lagavulin 16

The idea is to explore malts from different regions and with different characteristics, yet ones which typify their style.

Being in Australia, where imports are considerably limited, we don't have as many exciting choices to select from!

Many thanks for your two cents worth. Anyone else have other comments?
