GASPING FOR A WHISKY Aug 4 2003

SCOTCH cocktails are helping US smokers cope with a ban on public puffing.

The Trump World Towers bar in New York has developed drinks which mimic leading cigarette brands - including the Smokeless Manhattan - made of Laphroaig whisky, port and orange bitters - which, it's claimed, tastes like Marlboro Reds.

The idea follows the success in Florida of the tobacco-spiked Martini drink Nicotini, which offers a rush of nicotine.

That's not so crazy. After enjoying an Ardbeg TEN you would swear I'd been in a smoky bar even though there aren't many around here now (not allowed to smoke in bars there). A smoky islay can be cloying!
