Good stuff Sean, both the Tali and the beef jerkey. Sounds like a good combo! Enjoy!

It must be that sort of night.

1. McIvor to start things out a bit;
2. Laphroaig 10 yo;
3. Black Bottle 10 yo.

All three lovely drams, tonight. 8)

Glen Ord 12 yrs old. Is this Johnnie Walker Green?? WOW! The nose and palette are very close to JWG minus the pepper and peat. Glen Ord must be a huge component of JWG. I need to find more of this stuff!

On the JWG box it shows 4 key malts are Talisker, Cragganmore, Linkwood, and Caol Ila. I am a big JWG fan....you have me curious about what this is like now....and it's unavailable in my area :x

Near me, I have only seen it in one liquor store and they only had a 200ml bottle. It was $4.99!! How could I pass it up. I will be stopping in again to find out they can get more or maybe the bigger bottle.

Working on finishing up some more samples tonight.

Mortlach 15yo ( 43%, Signatory Vintage, 5.10.91/9.25.06, Sherry Hogshead Cask #4164, 91/366 )

Light and grassy with some floral notes on the nose. The pallet has some malt, it's a bit dry, and it gives that mouth cooling sensation. Also a touch of mint. Medium finish with some spice.

Thanks to orangedogofglory for this sample!!

Next up, rather large pour of this really drinkable malt.

Highland Park 13yo ( 46%, Sig UCF Collection, 1993 )

It's got a light nose, with a mix of wood and citrus fruits. Oh boy does this one go down smooth!! It's a fruit blast on the palate with a medium finish with a hint of wood.

Thanks again orangedog!!

I picked up a bottle of Warre Otima 10yo Port, I have never tried port in my life!! I thought it would be suiting to try some after thinking about how the influence the Port cask has on Scotch....

I will pour my self a dram of Glenmorganie Quinta Ruben and then try some of this port!

The Smokey Peaty One vatted malt. Pretty good, a lot of Highland Park in this one. Moderately complex. Good, but not anything spectacular.

Haha...

Now I'm onto:

Glen Keith 22 yo Cadenhead stubby brown bottle - 3/67-1/90.

This one is much better than the 10.

Highland Park 21 yo 1978 - The Bottlers, Single Cask #3475 56.2%

Another sample from Mikeymad, and this one definitely lets you know it is CS. A hot one, but very tasty.

Here's another sample from Mikeymad...

Mortlach 12 yr 1993 Murray McDavid 46% Bourbon/Syrah enhanced in Syrah Guigal Cotes Rotie Cask.

Ouch...I don't know if it's Mortlach I can't grasp or the cask used to ACE this one. On the nose, I get an old mildewed bag of grapes. I'm not much of a wine drinker so this may contribute to my problems here.

I've been mulling over the nose for about 5 minutes, and I am getting something else, but I can't pin what the smell is here. I'm thinking of a combination of an old jar used for pickled eggs with a sweet old vinegary wine.

The taste is better, but I still think of a strange wine on the palate.

I'm a nub when it comes to ACE'd whiskies!

Thanks a bunch for this sample as it is really testing my palate.

I'm finishing up a sample from O-dog.

Mortlach 15 yo 1991 Signatory, and though it is much better than the previous Mortlach I tried, I can't quite get into the flavor profile of this distillery.

Thanks a bunch for this sample O-dog!

Haha. I thought you might like it. I don't remember it being THAT good though, so I'll pour one tonight.

Please tell use what you think, maybe I am going nuts! But, I really think the two are very similar. I still prefer JWG, but its close.

My second try of a Lagavulin 21. Now that I was prepared for what this whisky is like, I find I like it much more. I thought it was too hot and harsh the first time...

It has either calmed down or my expectations have been properly adjusted. In either case, this is still a winter whisky for me; something to drink slowly by the fireplace and contemplate its many virtues. It's delicious in any event...

Interestingly, White Horse also has a good deal of Talisker, Linkwood, and Caol Ila in it! (Along with grain, admittedly). I thought I nosed some similarities, though!

Tonight, simple stuff again--a Black & White blend. Not bad, simple...decent amount of malt for a blend. Wouldn't push it away in any case. :?
