Guys and Gals, I have got to say that the initial unnumbered release(s) are the ants pants hands down. I have tasted most batches thereafter and the no batch number release is my favorite followed by batch 6. Admiral, we shall one day in the near future enjoy a bottle of the long gone unnumbered edition. Cheers

Batch 29

Glass 1: Brandy
Nose: cherries jublee, liquid caramel over red apples, slightly nutty (almonds and hazelnuts), cranberry bread
Palate: caramel, chocolate covered cherries, fruits, cider
Finish: long, sweet spiced cider

Glass 2: Glencairn
Nose: vanilla ice cream smothered in caramel, fruit salad with marshmallows
Palate: red apples, caramel, campfire marshmallows, nutmeg/spices
Finish: long, spicey

Batch#29 sounds like a tasty lot with the caramel, cherries, and spice!

Followup after a day for batch 29

Nose: similar elements but the spices and caramel are more dominant and the cherry element is more subdued.
Palate: very close to the same
Finish: same

Thanks Rich: You folks are up to Batch 32 already, I'm only seeing #30 around Seattle. I wonder how # 30, 32 are tasting. I stockpiled four bottles of #26 last year (which was excellent), and I'm getting ready to stock up again.

I hope it's the batch or more the bottle.. I picked up a bottle of batch #32 tonight, my first a'bunadh, and I'm really underwhelmed. I'll give it a few more passes in the coming weeks, but it just seemed very one-dimensionally sherried. Despite 60% ABV it's not hot at all, but it just seems like sherry and... nothing more. Maybe the faintest trace of wood.

Or it didn't follow the Bruichladdich's act well at all.

I agree. The #32 ain't great. Give it plenty of time in the glass and it gets better - just.

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one underwhelmed by the 32.. I'll give it some more time in the glass next time. It struck me as a less complex Dalmore 12. I was disappointed by it since it's gotten some really great buzz.

Have you had batch 30? I've seen that floating around, but I think I read something elsewhere that indicated a very strong sherry note in the last few batches.

I haven't been posting in a while, but find myself buying more Whisky, and drinking more in the winter months, so I enjoy the forums more this time of year. Summertime comes, and we travel, and fish, my drinking turns more to wine.

I'm working on a bottle from batch # 36 right now. My first A'Bunadh so I don't have a reference point but I like it alot, even moreso than the Aberlour 18. Rich, sweet, notes of orange peel, cherries, and baking spices. Really nice Winter whisky, makes me wish I had a fireplace. Like the ABV, bottled at 60 ABV but I only add a tiny bit of water to bring it down close to 50.

Picked up a 2010 George T Stagg too, I should have no trouble keeping warm this Holiday season!

Welcome to A'bunadh. Certainly a great sherried dram! I have a sweet tooth, so it is one of my favorites.

I like #36, sweet, raisins, fruit, sherry, and creamy. Sweet raisins and heat on the finish; But I detect a tad of bitterness from oak. I'm sure it will dissipate over time. Still a very nice dram!

I've had other A'bunadhs were that more balanced, and without the oak bite that #36 has.
