Best Abunad´h Batch

Next week we'll finaly know which batch is teh best
During the Speyside festival alex and I will be hosting a tasting with all batches (including the sterling Silver one) up to 23
we had prefered doing this in one long session. But that didn't really comply with responsibly dirnking in the UK.....
so now it's for sessions over two days
May 7th and 8th in the Craigellachie hotel

It would be interesting to see the results of a blind tasting of all batches

Batch 19 is the best i`ve tried so far

I feel in love in batch 12 (60% from 2004) and have not rated any batch higher since then.

But on the other hand I have missed out on both the 14 and 20, which seem to be the favourites for many.

They're my favourites so far too Nick...tho' i only came n at 13, and missed 15, 17-18. I was given a dram of 19 in a pub after a gig, and I remember it as having "something special" (tho' it could have bin psychological- the surprise at finding Abunadh in a pub...coupled with being offerd a freebie by the lamdlord!)

I like the cofeeish batch 19 but no way I'd prefer it to the 14. Still my fav ! *soft spot for the very chocolaty 17 though..*

Anyone tried B25? It's currently on sale at Waitrose for a smidge under £25.

Looks good, but at the moment such a purchase is almost like an investment, and the cynic in me says "£25? Off season?? MUST be a bad batch!"

Opinions anyone?

Sorry Regga, I haven't tried #25 but i've got a #24 open and it doesn't seem anywhere near as good as previous batches. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Hmmm. Thanks for replying. I remember 20 fondly, but found the next I tried. think it was 22, very much more winey. Less rounded.

It's a bit the same with the 24. It seems much younger, a little thin and flat and more spirity. It's also missing the lovely thick spicy sherry character and the balancing chocolate and hint of smoke.
I'm hoping it will improve with some time open because i'm struggling to enjoy it at the moment.

I had the same misfortune with the 21 when I opened it, it seemed spirity, high on oranges but not much more but it greatly improved over time ... Any news about the 26 ?

Just saw batch 26 in my local store recently. It is over 60% and was very tempting but I held out. I will have to wait till I am about to finish batch 21 before getting it.

I've had similar experiences with Batch Nos. 10 and (especially) 11, particularly the latter, which seemed a little schizophrenic (unknit) upon first opening. However, both did improve noticeably with time.

Batch of 23 is the best batch that I have had (16, 18, 21 and 23). Some nice whiney notes, caramel, fudge and cherry.

Batch 20 so far. There's plenty of #20 and #23 floating around in Australia, both of which seem to be popular.

I wasn't sure so I went and checked last night when I got home. Sure enough Mikey and I polished off Batch 15 while he was down. A very good batch, at least for my profile.

I tasted several of the batches and concluded that Batch 6 was the "one to beat". Close finishers were Batch 14, 15 and 17.

I can't really say what my favorite batch is because I have only had Batch 21 but I did think that was really good.

A simply fabulous edition, no doubt. I still have approximately a ¼-bottle's worth of this one sequestered in a smaller container, and periodically 'revisit' it to remind myself of just how truly excellent the Batch No.6 is.

Just after the "discovery" myself and other members of our society(Single Malt Whisky Society, LLC - Dallas, TX)
"scoured the ends of the earth" for the Batch 6. Our labor was well rewarded - we netted over a CASE! My current inventory is reduced to about 3 bottles. My biggest problem is that after pouring ,"it evaporates right under my nose"!

I have just spotted a few bottles of batch 27 at 60.1%. Has anyone tried it?

I had a sample of batch 24 a few days ago. On the nose it is a bit easier to identify individual flavours than it is in previous batches. The brown sugar and dark fruits really stood out, however, the mouthfeel was a bit thinner. I also thought that it had slightly better balance, the sherry didn't dominate too much which let other flavours come out.

I am having trouble deciding what batch to buy next. The available ones are 17, 24 and 27. Anyone have any suggestions?

Your probably best to avoid the 17 as it is one of the most sherry dominant batches.
I'm personally not thrilled with my batch of 24 so that only leaves the 27.
It's a shame you don't like the sherry dominance though as 17 was fantastic.

I've had a bottle of batch 17 and batch 25, and I have tried batch 12 as well. Batch 25 was far superior to both 12 and 17 - both of which seemed to be trying to hard being sherry monsters. I'm not a fan of this style of whisky though but batch 25 was alright - although Macallan CS is clearly a better whisky in my opinion.

Batch 25 at Oddbins, £5 off so selling at £31. I'm really enjoying it. I've had one in comparison bt didn't really like it, could of been one of those really sherried ones that has been mention (don't know the batch number).

Picked up a batch 26 at 60.5% at Oddbins today. I hope it won't let me down...
But I have no access to other batches to compare with.

We are so far behind out west. The newest batch I've seen is Batch 23...and it has been on the shelf for 6 months.
