Wanted: Rare Malts Selection

Postby eggs » Wed Feb 18, 2009 2:22 pm

Hi all,

Been a while since I posted due to ridiculous work commitments. However i'm back now and looking to try and bulk up my collection of the Rare Malt Selection. I have 6 bottles so far, not much i know but its a start! If you have any bottles from this series that you would like to sell then please either post or IM me with what you have and what kind of price you are looking for.

Hopefully hear from some of you guys soon.

That Brora is very, very good. Have only tasted it once. You shouldn't sell that one C57! :-)

Eggs: On the German eBay there are a few at the moment which have a nice pricetag I think.

Weinfreunde-owl is the seller I think.

Good Luck!

That doesn't sound good in these times. I'm sorry to hear that, although I don't know you. Don't sell too much whisky!

Hi Nick

Just saw this thread and your bad news, sorry to hear about it. This climate is affecting so many people, and from what i see for no real reason at all. I hope you find employment that you want, as soon as possible.

I have two Rosebanks - a 20-year-old distilled in 1981 and a 22-year-old distilled in 1981. I don't know the value.

bottles from the rare malts selection are one i tend to collect myself, there was around 107 diffrent offical versions from the rare malts selection range, i tried to collect all of them, have sort of given up at around the 80 bottles from the range mark.
Some of the bottles in the range are going for good money, ive seen a few versions sell for over the 1000euro mark. Now there they havent been getting marketed or released anymore, there scarcity is only going to increase, get some while you still can, the earlier the release the better.

We sell the Glen Albyn, Glen Mhor and Coleburn. Can't remember exact prices but about £90 give or take a fiver.

I can recommend the Ulf Buxrud as an excellent source of distillery and Rare Malts facts and figures. I think Whisky Magazine are selling on-line at half price (£30 to £15) or try Amazon

Anyone have a complete list of the bottlings, having just picked up a Brora i fancy possibly getting a few more.

Or is it best to buy the book?

I doubt you can do much better than this for a reference list although it's depressingly long for anyone seeking to build up a collection.

The whiskyauction.com archive contains photos of many of the rarer ones although the prices are eye watering.

I've noticed the Rare Malt Rosebanks have jumped in price at the whiskyexchange, although they're still available for a good price here and there. I wonder if this is an indication that once they run out, they'll jump in value.

What were the general release prices for Rare Malt bottlings £75 at the time?

This seems very reasonable when 20 yr non limited bottlings are £75. Even £120 to try something amazing isn't too bad if you know the distillery is no longer producing.
