Port Ellen 1st Release

I`m looking for a bottle of the Port Ellen 1st Annual Release.

Does anyone have a bottle they would wish to sell ?

Hi,

It will be a costly search...you're able to find some bottles on Ebay (1 from a Dutch seller which is on ebay now)...but prices between 500-600 or even above are quite normal. I bought mine via whiskymag.com in 2007 for 400 euros...making my collection complete .

Join the club. The prices have been going up for a while now and it appears that there are less and less about. I think that it has got to the stage when the price being asked is probably greater than the value being sold.

Not wanting to get into a debate about the value being equal to the price people want to pay though.

I'm not going to sell mine but there are two bottles at whiskyauction.com at the moment.

At the last McTears auction on 13th May a PE1 sold for £380, so the price for this looks to be falling rapidly. This could be a blip, of course, but this particular auction had a bit more of a higher profile than usual, so you would have expected prices to be at least in line with the estimates here.

Although they are rare, there do seem to be quite a few knocking about at auction time, so have a look around and don't pay the ridiculous prices that some people want for them.

Hmm, hard to tell how many of the original 6000 bottles have been drunk and how many still exist.
I think there are quite a lot left, because the Annual Release was aiming at collectors right away. After the two Rare Malt releases of PE sold very fast, Diageo stated the collectible AR-series with a more fancy box and - guest what - sold it for a price almost twice as high as that of the previous Rare Malt releases.

I found 3 more of these today on Bonhams next auction on 17th June, each one valued at £250 to £280, less again. With 3 lots to sell I wonder if they will go for any more than that? Somehow I doubt it.

As for the 3 bottles at Bonhams, do people think that those estimates are realistic? There are a couple of bottles on Whisky Auction for 505 and 450 Euro, id definately buy one of those bottles for £250-280.
