Glendronach Single Cask

Just heard Parkers whisky are to be releasing the first ever Single Cask Bottling of Glendronach, sounds a very interesting bottle.

Other than this i have no details, but will post when i find out.

I've heard it's a 17 year old and heavily sherried. Could be a good one.

Our local whiskyclub bottled a 16y 1991 cs in march
it is really great
full sherry (1st fill oloroso) but not over the top...just
terrific!
tehre are even a few bottles left

A 17yo heavilly sherried version and a 14yo 2nd or 3rd fill sherry so its much lighter ... sounds rather tasty.

From what I hear Jim was sent several samples from which the final selections were made.

It's hardly worth mentioning, really. I shouldn't have brought it up.

Just WHISKY'S should not have an apostrophe. They could probably do with a few hyphens in the same sentence, and the semi-colon is a bit awkward.

None of it really matters, though. I make mistakes all the time.

I know there have been barrells sold by GlenDronach over the last few months to private individuals and clubs, but these are the first OB bottlings, bottled by the Distillery with Distillery labels etc etc.

dont know if its just me, but im amazed that the first OB single cask ever from a distillery has gone to a small fairly newish retailer, or i have misread and he doesnt have it exclusive, that its only him thats promoting it yet.

just re-read the pdf on it, appears he is saying he has exclusivity on the casks, now im even more surprised, (someone will prob point out something ive missed like he owns a percentage of the distillery or that) thats a fair number of bottles to ship on for a fairly small retailer.

If I really wanted a bottle. It wouldn't trouble me too much If for some reason I didn't like the shop. It's the bottle that I'd want after all.

Hopefully the definitive on this one.

I spoke to Alistair Walker this morning at BenRiach / Glendronach. He was very helpful and explained the story.

Richard Parker approached the distillery last year wanting a single cask bottling. They agreed, offered him a selection of casks and he (with Jim Murray) subsequently decided that he wanted 2. They will be released as official dob, to Parker's only.

In terms of whisky, the casks are 'representive of the Glendronach distillery'.

The neck label will state that these are the first official single cask bottlings to be released for the UK market since the distillery was taken over by the new owners. They THINK it is a world first, ever, dob from the distillery, but are not absolutely sure.

The distillery will be releasing 5 single casks for the wider market immediately afterwards (possibly just 1 week later). This will go on general release to the various usual stockists. The pricing is TBC, however the vintages will include 71,72 and 3 from the 90's.

They are developing the Glendronach distillery visitors experience, and have tentative plans for a 'manager's cask'. This will be a 'fill your own bottle' available at the distillery only. I did suggest that a pre-bottled 'available at the distillery only' was perhaps a better alternative to consider. I think a couple more phone calls may be needed there. [I personally don't like the 'fill your own' thing - it's pretty naff, something my grandmother might enjoy].

Anyway, I hope that's definitive enough.

Seems the only KNOWN single cask for bottling from this distillery was sent to the continent (Belgium I think), and was bottled there by the local distributors/agents - so not genuine dob.

Making these 2 casks the first two genuine dob.

I love "fill your own" I consider it the utmost in a distillery tour and best way to remember your visit. I've got a few including 4 Valinch's from Bruichladdich, 2 hand-fills from Aberlour (Sherry cask and Bourbon cask), and 1 each from Arran, Balvenie (Sherry 20cl) and Benromach. I'm planning to get another "fill-your-own" at Old Pulteney in September and after this thread I'll have to add Glendronach to my must-see and visit distillery list.
But then again I'm old.

I spoke with some friends that were passing past parkers shop touring the north of scotland and they went in for a look around and had a taste of both the Glendronachs and said they were both charming one in particular was outstanding - they refused to tell me which one as I am planning on buying both bottles - so maybe just maybe the 1992 is the one that is the better of the two. Aiden what was the bottle numbers you received? As I plan on buying two of each this month and was hoping to still be able to obtain a lowish number

It is the 1992 that is the really special one.

I am actually thinking about buying a couple more as I suspect they will be going very fast once Jim's Whisky Bible is released.

Yeah, but the 1994 is growing on me too. I'll get the numbers of those bottles shortly. Not at home at the moment.

1993 Cask 523 at 60.4%
1996 Cask 193 at 59.4%

There will in fact be another 2 single cask dob being released, making a total of 5 for general release.

The deal with Parkers, meant that the first two dob single casks would go to them, followed within weeks by the general release editions.
