Case of Port Ellen 13 year old - value ?

hi all,
i have a 12-bottle case of Port Ellen single malt 13 year old (bought around 1989 by myself).
just wondering if anyone can shed any light as to how much it is worth (per bottle and case if possible),as the time has sadly come to sell it.
Distilled in 1979 and bottled by Douglas Murdoch and co. ltd,glasgow.
40% strength.

I can only guess and it also depends on where you live but I think between 900 and 1200 pounds is realistic.

Per bottle: somewhere between 150 and 200 pound I guess (on auctionsites though)

Box clearly indicates 70 cl, 13 yo. It looks like the box indicates 1992 as well.

thanks to all for the replies
i had a good trawl around and couldnt find anywhere with it in stock.
most sites seemed to have PE bottles starting at about £100 (i'm in scotland,UK).
so just really need to find out a price,and see if it's worth selling the case in one go (preferrable from my point of view) or selling the bottles individually.
one of the sites i found said bottled in 1992,which adds up with writing on the box(apols for date error by me,must have been about 1992/93 when i bought it,think it was oddbins had it)

I remember Oddbins having a 12yo for £17.99 as it was in one of their promotional booklets , they also had a 14yo from Hart Bros for £24.99 but they were later than 1992 .

This bottler's PE have appeared at Mctears auctions over time, along with Ledaig bottlings. Prices seem quite modest but I would think just over £100 would be fair. Personally I think such a young bottling of a closed still should be more popular then they seem to be. 'Go figure'. I've got some 13yo Cadenheads Brora I felt super lucky to pick up for £60 from a friend. Martin Green's book of past sales resukts might help. The prices qouted in the books don't include hammer of VAT only bid.

It's true that its hard to see a sub-£100 PE in the shops these days, but they are virtually all 20+yo. Younger PE doesn't have such a great reputation though, so that may be a factor in its popularity. These bottles are more of a curiosity for whisky nerds (of which there are plenty round here).

I have to say though that I do think Willie has a point. The more popular Port Ellen's seem to be the older expression's rather than the younger.

They are colectible but the question is where to sell them.
As far as I know there aren't much better options than Ebay or Whiskyauction. But to sell them in these online auctions will coast the seller something and that's why I think it'll be very hard for the seller to make more than 100 pounds a bottle in the end.

I agree with Leorin, above.

There were a few 13 and 14 years old Port Ellen bottles at the Swedish auction, 6 month ago. They didn't reach the reserve price of around 120 GBP. I would say that around 80-100 GBP seems like a realistic price.

I wish you good luck with the sale, though. I hope it goes well.

I admit to being baffled at the size of this *ransom demand* for a 13 year old, not even an OB, but it suggests a higher value might be possible.

You wouldn't get this at auction, but I would advise contacting McTears if interested in selling, they would probably break it down into 2 or 3 bottle batches and possibly spread over multiple auctions to realise the highest value.
I seem to recall a batch of Murdoch PE's being sold in this way a couple of years ago and realising high prices although there are other older and higher strength Murdoch bottlings around as well.

hi all,
again thanks for the input,sorry for late reply due to laptop being replaced.
the case is being sold in an upcoming auction by bonhams auction house in edinburgh this month,in 3 lots of 2 bottles each (the remaining 6 bottles will be going in another auction later in the year depending on what they sell for).
apols to anyone who PM'ed me about the case,as only just got back online again other than email.
